When making a character that I want to wear more than one outfit

When making a character that I want to wear more than one outfit, would it be better if i created the whole body and added the clothes on after rather than model the clothing as the body? and if so, could the clothes be rigged and animated nicely without having to move the body and the clothing separately?

This is always a difficult question to answer, as it's so dependent on your needs and the character. The short answer, though, is yes you should model the entire body and then layer the different clothes over that.

You can rig the body and clothes such that they each follow the same rig, but preventing mesh interactions is quite tricky. You'll need to ensure the clothes have adequate mesh density to conform to the body, even when contorted.

More than anything doing things like the just takes a lot of tweaking to get it right.
