instances , empty and scale

where would I learn more about empty and instances?  I heard instances can be like array but save memory.

I would like to learn how to set up a large landscape scene. I have tried real world scale but I dont know how to set up the grid scale.  does this effect camera settings?

also, I am trying to learn more about Blender files, pathways and such. I have noticed when I have uninstalled blender to fix a issue, once I reinstall it it has my same settings. trying to get rid of addons I added.

Empties are typically used as reference objects, as they can be manipulated like any other object but will not show up at render time. This makes them useful for parenting other objects too, enabling you to move a set of objects all at once, or for controlling things like Array modifiers. This lesson is helpful for that: https://cgcookie.com/lesson/array-modifier

The scale does indeed affect the camera, as the world-scale affects the Depth of Field and the other camera settings. By default Blender's grid units equal one meter, and so leaving it at the default is a good starting point.

The Blender settings are saved to your Application Data folder, as are your installed add-ons. This manual page should help you understand: https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/dev/getting_started/installing/configuration/directories.html#
