Kent, how do you achieve the gizmo_normal image that you use here, one that has the scratches within? For my dear life I cannot figure out how to have the scratches image included in the normals image and not just a plain purple image of sorts, if you get me? Great tuts otherwise, much appreciated!

Thanks for watching! If you've seen the sci-fi helmet shading course (https://cgcookie.com/lesson/painted-metal-wear-tear/) I used the same technique from that lesson to layer the scratches together with photograph textures and Cycles nodes. Then I baked all the scratch detail into it's own normal map.
  • Excellent! Only finished the Fundamentals a moment ago and will now go to that Sci-fi Helmet course! Great work on these tutorials Kent. And these Fundamentals, oh they were sooo needed!:) Thanx for the reply! Happy blending!
  • Thank you for asking this question I was wondering to, and I'm looking forward to taking the Sci-fi Helmet course. and also thanks to Mr. Kent for these helpful courses!
