With Shared Data Objects, is this a strategy to reduce the AMOUNT of data in a file, or keeps scenes and meshes to a certain minimum?

    I'm not sure if it has much impact on the memory, although I suspect it does, but more so it enables you to create multiple instances of a single mesh. This means you can replicate the object many times across the scene while keeping all of them synced to the same mesh, such that if you modify one it cascades the changes across all of them.
