To work in efficient way I always try to use as many key-shortcuts as possible. But I can not figure out how to make Extrude working for me. There is only one option in Blender User Preferences -> Input: Extrude and move on normals. When I use it there are no options and all faces move always along one line. Is there any option to make it more user friendly? How can I make it more like it is in Maya, or Max?

The extrude tool is under 3D View > Mesh: https://cl.ly/j1Bo If you'd like to make Extrude freeform, such that it doesn't automatically extrude along the normal, then you can change the operator in the hotkey to mesh.extrude_region_move rather than the default view3d.edit_mesh_extrude_move_normal
  • The extrude tool which is under 3D View > Mesh does not work for me, I rarely want to use it since it moves all the faces in the same direction.
  • (missclick... that was not the whole message :P ) The problem is that I can not find any other extrude in shortcuts' menu. Where can I "change the operator in the hotkey to mesh.extrude_region_move"? I do not understand that part.

Forewarning, you're quickly diving into the deep end of Blender :) The hotkeys can quickly become very convoluted (but also very powerful) so rather than type it out I put together a quick video to demonstrate how to setup a hotkey for this particular instance. Here you go: https://cl.ly/j3uR
