Polybook-malhomsi

Inspired by all of you . i decided to start a polybook..

a way to share my WIPs and Learning progress.  and to exchange ideas with you,

my end goal for now is to start working on a pro portfolio.

  • Sculpt portrait practice :

2 hours sculpt. i wanted to take a break from sculpting women ! sculpting men is more easy !

    • mmalhomsi Maybe you should try to raise the amount of time to 30 min per sculpt, i mean you can barely do a pencil sketch in real, in 10 mins. So doing a sculpt in 10 min i dont think is such a good ideea, doing it for long time it could level-down your skill. Try to observe more or my other advice would be to do a real clay sculpt. That helps alot understand the form corectly! That's been said keep on doing what you are doing and like Miranda said "Have some fun!" doing something completely different. Gl!

    • irinel0790  thank u a lot for ur feedback ! i have actually started to do traditional clay a month ago and as u said it helps !

about that 10min sculpt , it was more of an experementation than a real practice , i was trying to see how i process my sculpt , but it s not going to be  habit , as u say i usually limite the practice time to 1 or 2 hour by portrait !  it Strange enough  it is not about sculpting ,it more about awareness and consciousness.

  • my dailly 2 hours portrait sculpt . satrted with the skull then the face above .

a lot to improve , but i m starting to be more aware of what i m doing

    • mmalhomsi Now we're talking! Switching to male heads for a while seems to be a good choice, you're getting back in the flow 😊 good progress!

If you get stuck again you can switch it up by sculpting an animal or object or another piece of anatomy like the hands or feet 😎

      Keep it up! 👍🏻

    • ssmurfmier1985 thank u ! ur advice was helpfull , i just switched to Something else and it was the thing to do , i sculpt a mal head yesterday , and get my fingers dirty with some true clay , today i take some time to go out with a pencil and a sketch book ! drawing people around  just having fun ! thank  u again ! u r awesome

    • mmalhomsi Glad it helped you :) you're pretty awesome yourself too you know ;) have fun sketching!

  • the dailly 2 hours ( ok it was 3 hours actually…) portrait sculpt , the same workflow : skull then muscles then the skin , and some detailing !  need to improve a lot , but for 2 to 3 hours  sculpt it is ok , the goal is to establish a workflow and train my eye to the anatomic landmarks !

    • mmalhomsi that's looks cool, man! Want to practice facial muscles after seeing this :)

    • nekronavt thank u ! face muscles r more important to understand face expression with few exception they r very small and do not fom big volume nder the skin , face structure is mor determine by the bones , and face fat and retention ligaments ! i m still working from photos .. i really hope to find somebody how want to play the model , today i bought some mirrors so i can observe my own face ! but it is burried Under a 1 months beard !

BTW do u practice spped sculpt ?

    • mmalhomsi

BTW do u practice spped sculpt ?

I found myself watching UE4 videos on youtube for a couple of days :D But I'm back to 3d stuff now and planning to do some speed sculpts starting from today.

    • mmalhomsi It's cool to see the different stages! Good progress too 😊

    • ssmurfmier1985 thank u Miranda ! it is more about discipline here ! trying to introduce the dailly habite of sculpting drawing and so ..u know try to do thing the pro way ! and in the same occasion it helps to review basics ! and find a flow ! and i have to say that reading through ur polybook helps me here !  it's  sad that u put an end to it !

    • mmalhomsi ah but the stress about having to post something became a blockage to me, so I had to stop. And it worked because I'm finally (but slowly) getting back into the flow again :)

  • my dailly 2 hours portrait sculpt ! men r really easier to sculpt

i was going for likeness today !

  • no dailly portrait today .. i was really out of time !  it  sucks.

  •  the dailly 2 hours portrait sculpt !

  • the dailly 2 hours sculpt !  i love stylized character ! i have a lot of fun sculpting my favorite proffesor !

  • dailly 2 hours portrait sculpt ! i love Kick Ass 1 , the first time i saw Hit girl kicking some mobs asses was one of the coolest thing i ever see ! Chloe Moretz was a very good hit girl !

btw ..sculptuing children  is a nightmare !

  • i forgot  to post yesterday , the 2 hours dailly sculpt , some training on sculpting seperat feature of the face , exploring new workflow

starting with static mouths , next is exploring other shapes , and expression !

    • mmalhomsi good work on those mouths and noses! Looks like you're back to your old awesome self again 😄👍🏻

    • ssmurfmier1985 thank u dear ! i just came from a 4 hours clay class.. i m dead ! but it is good to do thing diffrently ! strangly enough it not the same workflow , with clay u have to be patient and take ur time !

and i did the ultimate sacrifice ! i ll use my own face for the anatomy sculpt study ! so i shaved my beard ! i can recognize myself lol

  • theluthier  enter the anatomy ! can wait for that Kent

    • theluthier  I would be very happy if by the end of the stream I can forget the weird names again, haha! When I think of a skull I think of glowing eyes and it doing an evil laugh 🤘🏻😛

  • just see   Yuditya Afandi  last work in the CGC gallery.. wow what a level this Young artist is attending.. a real slap to the face .. i m Always happy to see such work .. but it made rethink my art .. and reevaluate my capacities..

  • back to work..

i didnt touch blender last Week .. was more on the clay side lately , trying not to get too frustrated with my progress

so back to the face feature study , somes noses today

  • theluthier  did u  cancel the anatomy Stream .? i have to say that it was a pleasure to have u streaming again ( march was too long)

i hope everything is ok .

    • crew

mmalhomsi Yes I cancelled the second ecorche stream. After thinking about Tuesday, I decided my approach was not ideal. I'll reconsider how to better teach it and try again some day. And I'll try to think of another topic or two to makeup for the cancellation.

i have to say that it was a pleasure to have u streaming again

That's kind of you to say - thank you :)

    • theluthier  it is good to try Something diffrent .. and the skull Stream was good , really .. u r Always teaching us great thing s i personnaly owe u a lot . u may give the second Stream a chance ?

    • theluthier  it was a nice stream, tho it looked more like we were learning together, rather than you just taught us. Maybe it's a good situation to have a workshop or something, where everyone will do their own anatomy research and help each other?

    • nekronavt a good idea !

    • crew

nekronavt Yeah that was my intention with the stream, thinking it would be an example of teachers still needing to learn + students learning by helping me learn. But I understand now that's not best. I should only stream when I have something prepared to teach directly.

I've been practicing anatomy since last stream, so I don't think that topic will ever need to be approached in a "let's figure this out together" format. Maybe for something else though.

  • Hey  friends

i've been away for a while , i'm having a new  job for the summer and in my new town i m having trouble to have a good internet connection .

in september i ll go to an art school for a year .

    hopefully u r doing good

here some speed sculpt for a WIP ( a dwarf slayer from the Warhammer univers )

    • mmalhomsi Hi malhomsi, good luck with your new summer job and your new living situation.

If you say 'speed sculpt', how long did this take you?

Just curious, because something amazing looking like this would take me, and I'm just guessing here, about 90 hours, and not even getting close to your result...

I admit that I am very slow, but still, this looks great!

Another question, also just out of curiosity, what art school are you going to? You of course don't have to tell if you dön't want to...

    • spikeyxxx thank u for the kind words !

in  this stage i limit myself to 1to 2 hours of sculpting , just to have a general idea and feeling of the character

and i m sure that u can achieve the same result in less than 90 hours ;)

i m working hard this summer so i can put some money aside to go to a preparatory school of art in my home town ( a small city in France called Le mans )

i went in April to this school for a clay class and i fonud that it work well for me , i came to the conclusion that i cant learn alone anymore and i had the idea to go to this school for a semester , so i can refocus at the fondation and touch another field of art ( drawing painting , clay sculpting , story board , ..)

i'm almost 40 years old and i want to give art a bigger place in my life .. what do u think .?

    • mmalhomsi

"[ ]i want to give art a bigger place in my life .[ ]"

Sounds like a great idea: go for it!

    • mmalhomsi hello! Good to see you again 😊 Good luck with your summer job and art school, go for it I say! Awesome dwarf btw 😎👍🏻

    • mmalhomsi I completely understand the realization that you can only teach yourself so much in your own time, which is what led me to also go back to school.  CGC has helped for sure, but I'm ready to take the next leap.  Good luck in your endeavors!

  • He feels like he would chase me with an ax just for staring at his eyes. Looks cool.

  • Hello my fellows blender lovers ,

back after 5 mounths  away  from  my hometown and Blender  !

it was a good way to reset my eyes and brain !

next Week i ll be back to school  :)  i'm going more 2d then 3d , and more traditional than digital for now

but i ll keep Blending , ( didnt try 2.8 yet )   and trying to be an active membre here  !

i m happy to be back :)    see u all

    • Welcome back Malhomsi. I would like to say 5 months is a long time so I can sound deep and wise, but man time has been a joke lately, 10 years feel like nothing. Anyways, go do some Blender, break a leg, but careful not to loose your license.
