Have no idea what this is going to look like, but I am thinking of curvy shapes...
Making a start with things I know will have to be there...
First a test design for a table:
Have been playing with room shapes and how to make them. Ain't got the final shape yet, but got a technique to relatively easy modeling something like this:
Me like shiny.
Just having some fun with curved surfaces:
Maybe something like this for the room:
...and a first peek inside:
I know, the table still needs some thickness, but a Solidify Modifier doesn't give the desired result, so I'll have to re-model it (that's easy enough, but I'll save that for when I get stuck).
Its already looking very futuristic spikeyxxx
Some 'paneling' done and I didn't like the door; will have to re-visit that....maybe a window, or a screen or so would fit better..
Cool furniture design spikeyxxx! It might not have a name yet, but it does have character!
'Fixed' the table with chairs:
Was a lot trickier than I had expected (no wonder the Solidify Modifier couldn't handle this...), but I am really happy with the result :)
Maybe not a door, but a doorway:
I kinda like that, I think...
That looks great spikeyxxx , maybe there are no doors in the future, maybe only a force field.
Looking really cool - can't wait to see the lighting set up!
For the doorway / forcefield, you could show forcefield "beams" going across - a lot of fun to be had with lighting/in the compositor there!
good looking furniture in a good looking room
Could it be a space bar:
This could absolutely be a space bar!
Thinking about how they will serve drinks in the future. They will no longer have brands, just different kinds of liquids. Maybe using a construction like this (just a 3D 'sketch' of how it might look):
This would mean that drinks are not served by robots, which they have probably tried (in Japan they already have robots making and serving pour-over coffee!), but it wasn't a success; people still want to pour their hearts out to the bar staff ;)
Exactly spikeyxxx ,
Bar staff are more than just servers of drinks, they are also psychiatrists, thankfully they only charge by the drink and not by the hour. 🤣
Nice! Don't forget the "bell" for the round for the house!
Oh and I'll have mine stirred, not shaken (:
Small update with a different Matcap:
Made same 'niches' behind the bar for glasses, coffee machine, etc....and some minor visual improvements on the bar itself:
That's probably all for today: time to enjoy the nice, sunny weather :)
looks great, makes you want to have a nice night out in the space bar
Thanks Angela :)
And with your Tardis, you can make sure to get there at happy hour...actually, it doesn't even matter if you haven't finished before the deadline, because you can always finish later and then travel back in time to make the deadline ;)
Got a coffeemaker:
(the operating 'buttons' will be done with texturing, I think...)
and did some fixes:
Let there be coffee:
This is looking really great, Spikey! I’m loving a lot of your design choices. The barstools, tho, look a little too far away from the bar for drunk patrons to comfortably lean over, so I’d add a little overhang on the bar to accommodate them.
Thanks a lot acapier !
You're absolutely right about the stools, but their placement is not yet final and I will have to add a human rig or so in the scene to check the measurements and see that everything is working.
Also I will add a railing or so to the bar (it's not called a bar for nothing, right?) and also some support for the feet...maybe on the stools or a long one on the floor...Still a lot to be done before opening night ;)
Some glasses and the first few bottles:
And this is how it looks so far (still need more different bottles...):
and of course I couldn't resist adding a Klein Bottle (will probably not make it in the final render(s)...).
A Klein bottle! The drinkware favored by multi-dimensional beings!
Looking fantastic! So much stuff!
No modeling today. experimented with lighting and made a first render to get an idea how it looks and how long it takes to render (this took almost 3 hours, but it's only 1080p):
Also made the touch buttons to operate the coffeemaker:
I’m suddenly in the mood for some blue milk. This is looking fantastic Spikey!
Looking really cool. The lights really bring it all together. I could definitely see some aliens hanging out in here. Nice work!
Thanks a lot euv , acapier and jjammingammon !
I feel more confident about the lighting now 😀
Looking fantastic spikeyxxx , its really coming together nicely with the lighting.
Will there be any patrons in your scene?
Perhaps this is a place frequented by Kryten. 😂
I probably won't have time to add any 'beings' in this scene, unfortunately (need at least a day for rendering...).
So what humans or aliens frequent this bar is left up to your imaginations 😉
Very nice lighting design!
Made some light improvements. Also, the bar now has an actual bar (accidentally modeled it on the wrong side, but I decided to see how it looks when I simply rotate the whole bar and I like it even better this way, lucky accident 😅) and the stools have foot support (might need to adjust the height, but that is for the 'final tweaks day'...). Filled the first few some bottles to get a better idea of how it will look and rendered with less Samples (only 64, rendered in just under 40 minutes!) to see if I can get away with that.
And this is the result:
Happy where this is going 😀
Tomorrow the final modeling (mostly bottles) and materials and friday is for the final tweaks and fixes and to start rendering (hopefully).
Wow, that's all I can say with my jaw left there hanging pretty long. This is some futurama bar I like to go and drink.
Thanks euv ! I would love to welcome you as our guest 🙂
Still some modeling left (but not a lot...).
Accomplished the main materials, but I will have to tweak the Shaders a lot.
It seems like I can't use the Denoising, at least not with only 64 Samples (have to test it with the Compositor Denoiser Node though), it completely destroys the SSS....
Another test render:
