This is my 1st attempt at low poly modeling.
My goal is to animate a space shuttle launching into space and then meeting up with the space station (Nemesis).
I started a bit late so hopefully, I'll finish in time.
Excellent shuttle model, I’m looking forward to your completed mission.
Thank you Adrian.
That's the right stuff for a space enthusiast like me 😀😀😀👍👍👍!!!! Aaaaaaaaand lift off 🚀🚀🚀...
bc_griffin May I ask you what reference did you use 🤔?
bc_griffin: Just one more question 😉: Is the shuttle one piece?
really cool shuttle! nice modeling!
I created a test animation with some basic shading and compositing. My goal is to hopefully create a low poly cinematic feel. I haven't included a top view animation as I still need to create a terrain. The sky texture is most probably my biggest blessing. Modeling on the shuttle is almost done. Boosters and exterior tank are still a WIP. Can’t wait to add a particle system for smoke and fire. I might not meet the deadline; however, I will try my utmost.
This is a masterpiece in the making, so cool!
I'm gonna assassinate Bennie because he's too good at modeling.
bc_griffin Absolutely breathtaking👍! The lens flare effects make it look extra cool! How did you achieve this result?
bc_griffin Oh, one more question 😉: Do you use any external video editing software or is this all "Made in Blender"?
An awesome animation bc_griffin .
euv you can do it too, keep practicing, take up the challenge and you can achieve great things.
duerer Thank you dear Ingmar. 😊 🙏 To answer your 1st question, I used a bunch of references online viewed from almost every angle possible to get the best results.
Obviously it won't appear as realistic to what is displayed on reference because this after all is a low poly challenge.
I took on this challenge because I've never modeled anything low poly. Thought this would be a great opportunity to test my ability. 😊
To answer your 2nd question, the model currently consists of 2 separate objects...
- Body and Wings.
- Tail and Engine.
The file size is currently below 2MB. I am used to file sizes of 200MB and beyond because of my love for detailed designs.
Take care of yourself dearest Ingmar. 😊
Thank you very much, @bc_griffin 😀 ! Is this model all-quads? I think, with low-poly a modeler can be more generous with tris an n-gons especially since there won't be any deformations 😉. bc_griffin Take also care of yourself, dear Bennie 😀!
slenaerts Thank you so much. The same can be said about you. I wish you the best of luck and looking forward to your final results.😊🙏
slenaerts Thank you so much. 😊 🙏 You are too kind. Love your final product!
euv Thank you for your kind feedback Vue. 😊 🙏 Hope that you are participating too. Would love to see your wonderful work.
duerer Thank you Ingmar. 😊 🙏 It is a complex node setup that I created within the compositor that includes the use of various glare nodes, sun beam nodes, curve nodes, colour balancing nodes and masks. I also had to tweak the sky texture node quite a bit to achieve the desired look I was after. No external video editor were used. All effects were created solely using Blender. I push Blender as far as I can to show people it's capabilities. 😊 Thank you again Ingmar. Good luck with your projects.
Thank you, Bennie 😀! Especially the rotation of the lens flare beam coming from the engines makes it look extra cool 👍. Does this come automatically from the "Compositing" node setup or did you need to animate a setting?
adrian2301 Thank you Adrian. 🙏
euv So true what Adrian said. Keep on practicing. This is why I love Challenges as opposed to Contests. People can get very discouraged when they feel that their work is not good enough whereas with Challenges its all about You, perfecting and challenging your ability, learning and adapting. I do not become intimidated by great art, instead I become inspired and strive to become great by practicing. After all it is the mistakes we learn from that expands our knowledge. This is why we are all here, to grow as artists. Don't give up, you will achieve great things. Your Gallery to me looks great already. 😊
Thanks for the encouragement. *thumbsup*
duerer Mostly quads and some triangular. This is still a learning curve for me. Great advice, thank you Ingmar. Will convert my quads to triangles. 😊
bc_griffin I remember me modeling Kent's "treasure chest" which is, despite it's already a more complex object, stil a low- poly object, but I was trying to make it all-quads as a personal challenge 😉😁 . In the end, it wasn't necessary since the "Lattice Modifier" for giving the treasure chest a more cartoony look didn't pose a problem and it's still looking fantastic in Kent's "Coin Explosion Animation" here.
My earth model is now rendered complete. I can't wait to breathe life into it.
Have been watching Armageddon for some inspiration.
This model is based upon Andrew Price' tutorial.
Started modeling a small section of my space station.
Time is against me right now so I will only be submitting this piece alongside my low poly space station.
I will however upload a complete animation of my space shuttle launching into space in the near future.
Out of this world bc_griffin , When I read 'Andrew Price Tutorial' I was expecting a donut world.

bc_griffin Wow, you're not only a skilled character sculptor but also a high level low poly modeler 😀👍!
duerer You're welcome Ingmar. I think the lens flare I kept at default. The sun beam nodes were animated because I wasn't entirely satisfied with it's default position. I will have to confirm. 😊
Thank you, Bennie 😀! I've just seen that there's a "Lens Flares in Blender" tutorial by CG Masters here.
Uau! Great work!
adrian2301 Thank you Adrian. Hahaha, oh goodness NO. The Donut tutorial is such a great Introduction for Beginners. I did however made some adjustments to make it my own. It is just courteous to give credit where it is due. Thank you again Adrian.
adrian2301 and @bc_griffin Did somebody say "Donut" ? I'm getting hungry 🍴😉. Maybe, I could incorporate it into my little space station "Energize" 😉😁?! A propos "Andrew's Donut Tutorial": 1,946,166 million viewers (22nd July 2021) made it to the 7th and final part. Some were quite successful as for example Lucas Gardezani Abduch: "Wow. My donut looks like it was hit by a truck. But I'm having fun. Lets try the next level." 👍😁
duerer You're welcome Ingmar. Oh wow, that looks amazing! Thank you for sharing Ingmar! 😊 🙏
duerer Thank you Ingmar, you are too kind. 😊 🙏 Character design is my first love and passion when it involves 3D content. I can't wait for Kent Trammell' master course releasing in November. I love these challenges that CG Cookie presents to the community, because it pushes you to explore other regions, in my case low poly modeling. I have a new project in mind, a character I liked in my youth and loved playing the games. My adaptation of Dante from the "Devil May Cry" series. You take great care of yourself dear Ingmar and please share some of your progress on your projects.
Thank you, Bennie 😀! Yes, I'm also counting the months until Kent's "Portrait" course is released. And in the meantime there're so many other challenges. Courses are piling up on my computer and I hope to finish them before Kent's course starts.
Adrian encouraged me to submit my space station here. So, I need to hurry with the completion.
Your space station as well as your next character model will be great for sure 👍! A propos "Character Model": Recently, I've purchased Raphael Grassetti's "Male Character" modeling course for some inspiration in order to become a better sculptor. This is the best I can currently achieve.
Take care of yourself, dear Bennie 😀!
duerer You're most welcome Ingmar. 😊 I have been alternating between new and old projects. There is a few WIP projects I wish to complete like Lion-O among many other. Your Space Station and Human Head looks great so far. Would you be so kind as to forward the link to Rafael Grasetti' course? Thank you Ingmar.
bc_griffin It's the "Anatomy Tutorial Package" here on Gumroad. And I've just seen that Rafael Grassetti has a Youtube channel as well here.
Modeling, Shading, Texturing, Compositing and Animation all done. I created a few scenes which is currently rendering. Should be all ready by Friday, 07.30.21.
I created a Teaser which can be viewed here...
duerer Thank you Ingmar. Oh, I know about this course. I thought that you were referring to a new course. 😊 Yeah, I am a subscriber on his channel. Thank you again and all the best going forward.
