This is for the accessories team. Item F (Vase B) Very basic blockout for now, but I will have more time this week for more detail.
noonespecific That's a good start and welcome to the team 😀!
Can I tag this as your
Homework Submission - Week1 - Vase B
since the next livestream is already tomorrow here?
I would just slightly bevel (with only one segment) hard edges as at the top rim of the vase so that it doesn't look like razor-sharp. Also a an additional loop cut through the loop of bigger faces directly below the narrow bulge (with a slight fattening (Alt + S)) would give a smoother result. You can also turn on "Smooth Shading" in combination with "Auto Smooth" (in the "Normals" panel of the "Object Data Properties Tab" of the "Properties Editor").
Yes it is the homework submission, thank you!
Excellent blockout noonespecific. Very authentic to the art! You've earned full points from me 👍
For week 2 I recommend following the workflow from the stream on Tuesday. It's particularly relevant to this kind of cylindrical-based shape. You'll have fun adding sculpt accents!
Congratulations to full points, noonespecific! I'm looking forward to the sculpted version of your vase 😀!
Thank you! I really appreciate your support :D These last couple weeks have been very busy, but I'm about to sign a new lease and I've completed on boarding documents for a new job and now that stuff is taken care of I will have more time to work on this for the next couple weeks.
That's good news, noonespecific 😀!
The left is at a 50 mm view angle. Right is 70 mm
noonespecific Thank you for submitting the camera data 😀. It must just read "50 mm focal length" instead of "view angle".
Just a quick reminder. We still need a name for our team? What's your vote?
1) Shabby Chic
2) All Access(ories)
3) Shabby Fresnel Chic
4) The Stan Dalones
I like 2 the best. The layers of wordplay make me happy haha
noonespecific Thank you for your answer 😀!
Nice job on the container. I’m curious what will go in that one, perhaps cinnamon or paprika.
I haven't thought about it! It looks like it could be cinnamon, paprika, or even turmeric! I appreciate your thinking about that. That helps me envision the object better, thinking about the real world materials involved.
Week 2 WIP, low and high res
Great work 👍!
Looks great noonespecific! I don't have any constructive feedback to offer...this will bake beautifully. Keep up the good work!
Unfortunately, Time was far too limited this week, so I've only been able to wrestle with the normal baking process, and I'm not happy with it right now, but I'll keep updating it throughout the week
noonespecific Thank you for your dedication 😀! And don't worry, this week is a buffer week so that there's still time left until Sunday midnight.
Here's the latest! I want to tweak it a little more but I like it
I lied. I made some quick adjustments to smooth over texture seams
noonespecific, nice vase. And, congratulations on completing the project. I have posted your latest image above (smooth over the texture seams) in the blog. If you would prefer for me to use another money shot, please post a new render and comment me in your WIP. I'd be happy to update it on the blog.
noonespecific I join splat21 's congratulations to your finished project 😀!
Just two footnotes:
1) Do I see it right right that your final meshes (vase and spice cone) are in file WIP_acc_vase-B_noonespecific_00.blend named Vase C. spice 1 and Vase C.001 ? So, you could save a version 01 of your WIP file to Google Drive with only these two objects:
2) You need to upload your vase texture to Google Drive folder SPICE-VENDORS-HOUSE\TEXTURES\ACCESSORIES\ACC_STANDALONE and change the relative path in your file to that location. Currently it's set to \..\H:\George's Stuff\CG Cookie Collab 2021\CAD models\Textures\ on your local harddisk. Therefore the vase looks pink when I opene file WIP_acc_vase-B_noonespecific_00.blend.
Oh shoot I didn't upload it.... I just uploaded it and I believe I correctly changed the relative path for the textures. I can check back this evening. That Vase C... I'm not sure why it's there. That's not my work, but just in case, I just unchecked and hid it in the file in case they need it. Mine is clearly labeled as "Vase_b" underneath the folder "MASTER-acc_vase-b_noonspecific"
noonespecific I've updated the relative paths to the "Color Texture" and the "Normal Texture" of your Vase B, but I couldn't find the "Cavity Map" with your username:
Oh Shoot, I forgot to put my username in the Cavity map. It's just called Vase_B_Cavity.png
If you like, I can put it in as my username, but I don't know if that would break anything at this point.... it looks like it was found?? Whatever you need, just let me know
Way to finish strong noonespecific! My initial reaction is that it's noticeably lower resolution than other vases. But then I realized that it's appropriately optimal for the final assembly, where the others aren't so much. So my hat's off to you for prioritizing efficiency. It looks great in the assembly:
I made subtle tweaks to reflectivity and added a randomization component to the spice pile so every duplicate is a different color. Really nice work this month! Thanks for joining the collab. It's been a pleasure working with you 🤝
Thank you for your kind words! I really appreciate that. It has also been a pleasure!
noonespecific Your vase is looking great on the crate 😀👍! I very much enjoyed having you in our team 😀!
PS: Since the "Cavity Map" is found by Blender I wouldn't rename it unless theluthier decides to do so.
