Sry the first post I accidentally deleted when I tried to update the pic, one where the sky is not falling lolz...so here it is again.. Yes and all blender primitives!
I am very excited about improving my blender skills ..I can't wait to do more!!
ggolden-kitty really nice work. i love it , it looks really amazing. how you did this ? like making that snowman effect that wind and the stars ?
It looks super nice! How did you do the swirling lines? And the snow man, the texture looks great!
aaaltuvem Haha tx that is a white wolf, howling at the moon XD! I made the stars with boxes, and the wind with some spheres with an array and simple deform on them, taper I think.
what is taper? and how you collored this so Nice? is that too with the matcap ?
yyukinoh1989You can add modifiers with the blue key on the proprieties pannelThe simple deform modifier is in the "Deform" categoriesTaper is an option when you add a simple deform modifier to an object :)Here is the documentation about the simple deform modifier if you want to know a bit more:https://docs.blender.org/manual/en/dev/modeling/modifiers/deform/simple_deform.html;)
galledark hey thanx a lot. a question what modifiers are allowed for this exersice ?
yyukinoh1989 I must admit i dont really know. For my case, i didn't use any modifier in my submission :o
yyukinoh1989 I know for a fact that the Boolean modifier is allowed, which allows you to cut pieces out of a shape with another shape, but aside from that I have no idea.
yyukinoh1989 I tend to think modifiers are a little beyond a beginner's scope. But maybe I should rethink that and include modifiers at some point in this class...maybe week 2. Since I know we have a bunch of experienced users this month, I'm fine with modifiers being used. Go crazy! :)
theluthier awesome so we are allowed to use modifiers and booleans then ? still have to find out how to work with it
yyukinoh1989 I took a screen shot to show where the materials are assigned ...I added a new material for the different colors you see on the objects here. You will need to be in edit mode to assign materials to your meshes. Hope this helps a bit :)
going into edit mode for collors is ok then ? gonna have to hurry doe my scene. also could you explain how that taper Works? want to try use it for grass
yyukinoh1989 The taper is one of selections you can choose of the simple deform modifier. However, I just looked back at my file and I used twist not taper..sry bout that. You must first add the simple deform modifier then choose twist. Here is a screen shot of the scene without mateirals applied and the modifier panel open. Hope this helps.
ggolden-kitty thanx it was a nice scene but damn now i saw the turtle scene that is damn amazing. also Yannis asked if you used a grease pencil ? What is a grease pencil ?
yyukinoh1989 :D The grease pencil is a 2d application in blender you can use to draw and animate with like 2d mesh..
See it here https://cloud.blender.org/p/hero
I really like this one ...he demonstrates how to use it pretty good..https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXUUJMZl0R0&t=0s&list=LLDptxEubnPhyLD1McZmXgMg&index=5
Whoops! Well, at least you got another one up =] Looks better this time around.
Ah well, everyone makes mistakes, just good you happened to notice. Render still as brilliant as it was!
nice, looking chilly. :)
Still looks awesome! 😄
What a great result! Like construction paper cut with scissors - love the aesthetic. A+ in my book 👏
ggolden-kitty this 2D looking image in 3D is really special, some real art talent shining through this concept, very interesting composition
csehz >.< awez tx Zsolt : )
Such simplicity and yet tells a loving story. No two left feet for these two, eh? Very nice job
Week 2 Homework:
This little sea turtle only cares about one thing..getting to its clam bed to take a snooze...all the while unaware of the monsterous threats that had crossed its path.
ggolden-kitty omg! it looks awesome! The turtle looks great!!
ggolden-kitty Wow! Lost for words here.. it's amazing!!!!!
Some tires I modeled for the modifier class...
ggolden-kitty Well damn, someone's working fast! Really loving the art style going on here, great stuff!
ggolden-kitty Done with week 2 already! Wow, wonderful underwater scene. I love the visual quality you achieved with viewport shading tools. And you did the wheel modifier exercise. Awesome job, Curious! A+
theluthier Thanks:) Haven't done much meshing in about 5 months still recovering from crazy rotator cuff tear...This course was my dive back into the world of blendering XD It has been a bit diffcult but I am sure the results will be well worth it..besides I was going through meshing withdrawl lolz!!
I'm so impressed ! :O You're scene is amazing !
galledark Tx glad you like it :)
ccurious Can i ask you how did you create this style for your turtle scene?Did you used the grease pencil ? It looks like a concept art :)
galledark No this is all 3d mesh..haven't had a chance to try out the grease pencil much yet. But I know it is gonna be fab!! I took a few screen shots to show my settings for the metcap I used for shading in viewport this one is toon..I still need to clean the sceen up a bit..add some more decor and move the plants around a bit..
ggolden-kittyWoah i should use this matcap ^^Thanks for the answer ^^.We can render it with a openGL render !.... WOAH tons of options are here now... <3yyukinoh1989 The grease pencil is a tool into blender. You can use it when you press D+click, you'll draw on your screen with.I've only used it to make some annotations into the 2.79, but with the 2.8 version it has been improved !
ggolden-kitty Wait...How did you make the back of the scene green, and the rest of it "matcaped" ?When i add a matcap, my whole scene use the matcap :O
Nice work! That toon shader really works well.
ggolden-kitty What a fantastic render is that! Your Week1 submission was also nice but this one is at least two-three levels higher, first of all wonderful details there on the models and that is greatly presented in the composition
Just a quick look at my wip on building up and populating my scene..not gotten far since 2.8 is being cranky. Next project I will be using 2.79!
ggolden-kitty It gets better every time I see it, I like these color choices fits the cartoony theme 😁
ggolden-kitty Looking good colored. What kind of crankiness is 2.8 blessing you with?
theluthier Welp it didn't like my plants the morning, would crash every time I tried to move them. Sooo I had to move the scene around the plants :(. Then later in the day it decided to despise my urchin instead:/ I then could move my plants but not the urchin....finally I was able to select the urchin and delete it..now all is well and I have a new urcin lolz ..spanks blender..:D
Made some jellyfish using nerbs circles..using 2.7 to model in now and just appending it into 2.8 fyi :D
Great colors! How fun!
Updated wip...slowly but surely XD
ggolden-kitty My oh my more beautiful every day! the anchor is a bit difficult to see.. but it's definitely improved since the last one, looking great! 😄
smurfmier1985 Haha tx Miranda I thought the same thing about the anchor. It is not there by choice, blender says it stays in that spot for now :D I had to move it back because the plants where going through it...and I can't move the plants or it crashes....grrrrrr. Tx for the compliments btw :)!!!
ggolden-kitty I feel your pain, blender just crashed on me when just adding a new material, grrr indeed!!
smurfmier1985 Urgh grabs pitch forks, hands one to Miranda ;D
ggolden-kitty This looks so cool! Something I would use as Desktop Background, well done! :D
Tx to everyone and their kind compliments throughout this post :) U guys are awesome!!!:):):):D
ggolden-kitty It's full of life, colorful, modeled very well. Love the seashell 😉 Awesome final render! 😄 You should update the one up top too 😊
smurfmier1985 Hehe tx, yeah that was easiest vid I ever watched XD! Gotta luv dem mad spiral skillz:D
ggolden-kitty Wow, what a great style. Thank you for showing me that the Toon matcap is a thing - might give it a try myself at some point.
ggolden-kitty I've quite enjoyed seeing this scene fill up! You've been doing a lot of modeling and that's ultimately what week 2 was all about. I've already recorded an A++ even though I don't think you've officially submitted 🙂
ggolden-kitty I. Love. This. Style. And the whole scene is very cute imo
~ Updated head sculpt
~ Primitive Sculpts :
~Wip of a head sculpt...maybe work on it somemore at end of week. Link to Melvin Sculpt I did last week https://skfb.ly/6AUJH Lol I would really like to redo him from scratch when I get enough time.
ggolden-kitty Wow, you work fast!!! Looking good so far 😊
ggolden-kitty Sternocleidomastoid muscle facing wrong direction I think :D Realy good start anyway!
nekronavt Ok tx Pavel..I will try and work on it later this week.
ggolden-kitty Wow! Really nice job. And fast. I'd love to see how far you can refine her if you get time.Have you sculpted faces much?
theluthier Tx! I haven't sculpted anything in about three years and then it was zbrush and just lots of stuff and lots of fun XD. So not many faces in particular.
ggolden-kitty You got a lot of potential here, I'm hoping you take the time to refine the face and go all out 'cause so far you got a good foundation.
thecabbagedetective Tx Cabbage glad you think so:) I am still recovering from a shoulder injury and sculpting really seams to aggravate it out of all the meshing process:( So I think that is it for sculpting for me for awhile.
ggolden-kitty Awesome work this week, Curious. Your Melvin kinda looks like a kiddie version with a bigger head, like muppet-babies or something. I really like that aesthetic! Never seen a Melvin turn out that way 👍
And your head sculpt is quite good. Is this your first headsculpt?
A+ for the week 👏
theluthier lol tx Kent! That Melvin is alwful ..the first one was much better. But I decided to redo it and sculpted over it and by the time I wanted a redo my shoulder was throwin tantrum. So I had to throw in the towel so to speak. But after some rest I will be right back at it, cross fingers..!! This is first head sculpt I have done in a few years.
ggolden-kitty That sucks about the shoulder.. hope it heals soon!
smurfmier1985 Tx me too!!:D
ggolden-kitty AWESOME idea! 10 Platinum Parenting stars to you.
ggolden-kitty Woah that last character is wild. I'm intrigued.
First image of the fawn is final for now, reworked arms abit. Still not happy with them so they will get a chop and a complete redo the next time I open this file (someday in the very far future:D). I made the dress in the last pic because my daughter thought it would look better with one, and I think she may be right lol :D
The despicable me fluffy unicorn I just did cause I saw it setting in the living room XD
These along with the other projects are my homework for week 4.
ggolden-kitty Phew, there sure is a lot to look at in this thread, you have been really productive! :-) All of the characters are very cute - and it shows that with each one of them you are becoming more comfortable with sculpting. Just to check - your final image is the fawn in the T-pose? I kinda like the second render more (the one with hair, close-up) but I can use whichever image you tell me for the reel...
sshiennar Hi Kat, I like the second render to with the close up of the face and hair:) Haha yes more productive now that I am able to use my arm again a lot more!!!! Making up for lost time! Started physical therapy and mega mineral and vitamin supplements :D:D
ggolden-kitty Glad to hear that. :-) With your permission, I'm going to use the second one, then.
ggolden-kitty Woah you did a *lot* this week, I really respect the dedication and variety. Cool to see you fixating on sculpting, too. That combined with your more abstract art is really nice.
ggolden-kitty I'm very faun of your work and I hope those movie shorts pan out for you. I think it is great that you include your daughter and her art direction in your work.
thecabbagedetective Thanks Aaron I really appreciate that:) I forgot how much fun sculpting can be! It has been fun..and really liked you last scene with the robots...reminded me of this song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RVNgrkGX8TA : D
ullreym Haha thanks Matthew some might say it is fauntastic ;P Just kiddin glad you liked :) I wouldn't be inspired to do much art without my family :D
ggolden-kitty Wow, you've been busy! Lots of great stuff here, lots of beautiful details, and making movies with your kids is just awesome! 😄😃
ggolden-kitty I have to say that you represent the Real Artist for me, your compositions are so original.
A kind of unique imagination, ability to create worlds and these overwrite any technical kind of skills as these own concepts are much more important in your head
csehz Zsolt, I believe that are perception is based on our progression through this enlightened walk we call life. This is what makes us a true artist :) A line can be a beautiful thing, but to some it will just look like plain boring line. To others it may appear just so slightly curved and delicate as if sketched by a soft wind. Seeing the potential from what was, what is and what could be from something as simple as a line...isn't that a true master piece? So, I must conjecture that you Zsolt, are the true artist here as you see the curves in the lines:)
I wonder when you first began it seems that the tentacle was going after the turtle, now the turtle has a tentacle and a shark going after it!? Just kidding, your scene is amazing!
Wow this scene filled up beautifully! So much ocean life - great job ggolden-kitty. Way to keep pushing it forward 👏
Nice! Feels a bit busy, though, and if the focus is the turtle, it feels like it's fading a bit into the colors behind it; they're similar in value. My eye is tending to go everywhere else other than the turtle. I wonder if maybe you reversed some things around; make the turtle bright and happy colors and the dangers darker and fade into the background a little bit. There's also a lot of stuff in the fore- and mid-ground, not a lot in the background, even if it was a wall of seaweed maybe that would help the background feel less flat? Or a gradient, maybe? Small bubbles floating up to the surface? Something to think about. Overall, I like the style.
Yeah, solid sculpt. I also agree the neck muscles that connect down to the collar bone are wrong. It forms a triangle with the point at the hollow of the collar bone and wraps behind the ears. Anatomy for the Artist by Sarah Simblet has great anatomy information plus overlays of various structures on bodies. There are probably free sites out there, too, but I don't know off hand.
