· Lesson: Adding hair and final polish · Course: Creating an Animated Spooky Spider in Blender 2.9
I tried rendering using the instructions in the video and my instance of blender crashed. I tried any and all variations of the settings altered in the video and every time, my instance of blender crashes and I have no rendered video. Help?
What are your computer specs? https://www.blender.org/download/requirements/
Are your (especially graphics card) drivers up to date?
What Blender version are you using and where did you get it from?
Blender 2.90.1 from blender official site.
This computer I am on is fairly up to date. Primarily used this for VR Games and sims before I owned it. A hand me down from my old man. I tried deleting the hair particle, because these drastically reduced viewport performance as well, and my render still did not come through. I will also reach out to Discord members for assistance.
This is fairly low-poly and should not crash Blender. Does it crash without the particle system? Care to share your .blend file?
I've got an old pc myself and it takes quite a lot to crash Blender.
You might also want to try 2.91 or 2.92...
Or even 2.83LTS...
I just posted to the Forums. Hopefully we can find a solution!
I can send you my blend file so you can take a look under the hood for me. I tried taking out the particles and the wiggly bone addon and still un able to render an animation.
Does it crash if you render out an image, or only when you render out the video?
P.S. All questions are posted to the forum already, so I set the other one to draft so there's not a duplicate.
I was able to render an image once throughout my trials and tinkering.
Update* just tried to render an image. Blender crashes.
Let me ask you again:
and yes, please send your .blend.
Everything should be up to date. How /Where do I send you the blend file?
Upload the file to Dropbox, Google Drive, or any other filesharing service and then paste the link here.
Here is the link for my file via google drive.
mr_no_face Didn't change any settings, apart from the output filepath and it renders without any problems on my old computer:
(just showing one frame, but it renders the animation as mp4, as you set it...)
You say everything should be up to date, but did you actually check your drivers?
Just did a lot of googling to make sure I knew how to update my drivers and did so. Still won't render. BUT it doesn't close out immediately. So , progress has been made.
Be sure to give it enough time to let it render!
It can take some time before you see something in the render window:
You might also want to fill in the field in the Vertex Color Node (use the name 'col') in your Fog and Vignette Circles (although that doesn't affect whether it renders or not).
It gets about 4 frames in and then just shuts off completely. Am I missing something? I don't think it is a matter of , me giving it time. It just doesn't render past 5 frames and then leaves me with a corrupt or unsupported file. I'm at my wits end and this is making me sad man.
Try rendering the animation as PNG's (this is actually common practice) and see if it renders all the frames, then you can make it into a video afterwards.
I am trying now to render the whole animation as mp4 on my old pc...I'm at frame 19 atm without problems. (Apart from missing textures;) )
Okay, I stopped the rendering process. This is how far I got w/o a problem:
My guess is that it's your computer that is the culprit.
In case the rendering in PNG's doesn't work for you, I can render out the animation for you, but you'd need to include your textures in the .blend file:
But rendering in single frames might work; still use CTRL F12 to render the animation, but set your output to PNG ( or JPEG, or TIFF,.....)
I'll give this a try. In the mean time, how would I go about debugging whatever is wrong with my computer? It's not out of date by any means and was / is primarily a gaming PC with smooth VR capabilities. If that is any testament to the power of the computer. I will continue to do research. Any suggestions welcome!
Gosh I am just fighting an uphill battle. I went to render it as a PNG , Jpeg, TIFF. Nothing worked. I went to 'Pack all into .blend' and it threw an error stating it couldn't find 1, the font and 2. a file from another project entirely that shouldn't be in this one at all.
Edit** I was able to get the font file into the .blend. Here is a new link with the updated file. never mind that other weird file I guess it doesn't need to be packed if it doesn't need to be associated.
This what I am using:
Operating system: Linux-5.4.0-52-generic-x86_64-with-debian-bullseye-sid 64 BitsGraphics card: GeForce GT 630/PCIe/SSE2 NVIDIA Corporation 4.5.0 NVIDIA 390.138
it's a desktop computer from around 2012, 12 GB RAM
Can't tell what's wrong with yours...crashes and stop rendering after a few frames suggest that you don't have enough memory.
This is still another language to me. Let me know if something is off.
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-8600K CPU @ 3.60GHz 3.60 GHz
Installed RAM 16.0 GB
System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor
Should be okay, but what is your GPU? (Eevee renders on GPU, I believe).
The errors I get when trying to pack external data are your World (HDRI): FirstRocket, your skull.png (which you should have) and your font:
IDK why it needs the first rocket.png that was the low poly rocket exercise?
My GPU is a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070
I DON'T EVEN HAVE THAT firstRocket.png FILE ON MY COMPUTER . Is this an error that will break the project? How do I get you the font? Do I need to add it to a google drive file to give you that ? I had ZERO issues with this same computer rendering the low poly rocket project when 2.8 first dropped. I need to figure out why this is such a hassle.
Your computer is better than mine ;)
That first rocket.png is an environment texture (maybe from that rocket course?), but I just use a different one, so no problem there.
I also filled in your vertex color field in the Vignette and Fog:
is this your font:
? (Downloaded it from some website)
Yeah that is it, or close enough to it. lol. I really appreciate all your help!
Rendering now, still clueless why it won't render on your pc though...
I think I am gunna shelf this project and start the next. No sense in getting hung up on something so small. If I have the same troubles on my next piece, I will have to do some deep diving into this machine and figure something out.
Okay, had to start over, did you turn of renderability for the spider????
Why didn't I notice that?
I though I had it hidden from the view but not from the render. Did I have that mixed up?
Yeah, it was completely hidden :)
Anyway, got it rendered, but the skull.png image still didn't get packed somehow..
Can you upload that image (skull.png) separately to the cloud and post a link here? Unless you want a pink spider :)
Here is that link, I really appreciate it!
Forgot to post this image
When the square is un-checked (Exclude from View Layer) it also removes the renderability..
Probably still on the left side of the Collection in your version of Blender ;) like this:
Gotcha, Thank you for that insight. I did not know that THAT check box excluded it from the render as well. But I see now that it greys out all of the little options, so that makes sense. Its the little nuances that are tripping me up at times LOL.
Seems to be rendering ok now :)
Don't know why you are having problems rendering, as your computer is way better than mine and you managed to render the low-poly rocket animation, which is a lot harder to render, but at least I can give you a resulting video, hopefully before november 1st, of what you made :)
Do you know a computer 'expert' anywhere near you?
Is this working?
The legs don't seem to be moving. Did you have the wigglebones addon ?
I noticed that..didn't know I needed an addon for that, sorry.
Just installed this version:
Seems to be working now :)
Give me another 1/2 hour :)
Right on! Thank you again!
Okay, rendered it with moving legs...Looks much better now!
Uploaded it to the drive...see if you can use the same link to get the new version...if not, let me know and I will make a new link.
That's awesome. The legs work great! Just how I would have done it. How can I save this so that I may share it on my social media?
It's just your file, I only rendered it :) Don't know if there are settings to tweak in the addon... I personally would probably have used a noise modifier in the Graph Editor for the legs movement, but the addon works great!
When you've downloaded it (from the link), you should already have it saved (to your Download folder?).
I found it. Thank you again!
