Connection of Subsurface Scattering "Scale" and "Radius" values?

Do I understand it right that the first "Subsurface" scattering value is a factor (=global scale value) that is multiplied with the "Subsurface Radius" value which determines for the red, green and blue light components independantly how deep each component can get into a material?
