alpha texture, what is it doing?

what does it do and what does its value in textures affect?

    Hi mmekg , the alpha channel in the texture is the part that says what should be transparent and what shouldn't. When creating a new image with an alpha of 0, the strokes we paint on it appear on top of the previous 'layers' if we use the alpha value to mix the new texture in.
