This is a work in progress: Edward Teach, also known as Blackbeard.
I started off this base mesh I created: https://cgcookie.com/questions/12430-face-anatomy-study
I think it is really coming together. The split in the beard seems a little unnatural to me and I think I see the hat piecing the left side of the forehead. Otherwise it is looking awesome.
Thanks for your feedback!
The split in the beard is actually 2 braids, found in the reference I'm using: https://i.pinimg.com/originals/cb/ef/a0/cbefa0ac6b2e03ae77b2f2fbd2643814.jpg
I still need to sculpt the braids before I pose them.
As for the hat, it's something free I downloaded just to have a blockout. I'll create my own but I didn't want to lose time with that in this initial stage. I'm still experimenting with its position and angle.
My main focus so far has been on the face anatomy, blocking out, pose and gesture.
In the end, I decided to change the beard's design. I felt the braids may suit a realistic character but not this more traditional sculpt.
Nice yeah that looks better. Great profile overall for a sculpt. Better than my sculpting skills for sure.
Looking very nice. I am interested in what the eye brows will look like. With the right texture I think they will be fine but I think they might could stick out a little more or have more substance. I like the beard a lot better now.
So here it is: "The Captain"
Created with Blender 2.83, rendered in Eevee.
No textures, just lighting and compositing.
theluthier would love to hear your feedback!
jlampel I hope I made good use of your lighting course.
blanchsb I wanted to move on to the next sculpt, so no texturing, just lighting.
