I just figured, why not?
I'm making this "Shot mug mug shot" and I'm trying to figure out what the best way to make a bullet go through this is. I want it to shatter realistically.Just so you know, I made this after doing that sculpting Melvin course. All of Melvin is sculpted.
Hi Cookie Dough,
that looks great!
I guess you'll want that bullet animated...There is an old tutorial somewhere using the Blender Game Engine, but that felt very clumsy.
The best way I think, is to use the Fracture Modifier Branche. Go to: http://blenderphysics.com/fracturemodifier/
There is a Download tab with the three major OS s and a link to a video how to use this together with 2.8 (a workaround, no 2.8 version yet).
Jonathan Lampel has also done a livestream: https://cgcookie.com/live_streams/exploring-the-blender-fracture-modifier
When I try to render it, it is just black or transparent. Do you know what might be causing this?
DUHH, I had some stuff in the video sequence editor that didn't exist on my computer anymore.
The only problem I'm having is the pieces collide with each other.
I don't think that's very noticeable;)
I'd make it so that the pieces fly all over the place instead of simply falling down. Other than that, I like it.
Well, those pieces are not very heavy, so the impact from the bullet (its energy) will send them flying away, I'd expect.
Yeah it is awesome. +1 for making the pieces have more impact energy transferred. when I wanted to do that I used a larger object and made it invisible and hit it going in an upwards arc at around the same time the bullet would “hit” the mug. No one ever “knew” the difference heh heh.
maybe add a little camera shake just after impact to really sell the effect.
blanchsb or just make the bullet heavier;)
blanchsb I'm not really sure how to do a good camera shake. I think in this scene, it will be ok without it, but if I had an explosion or something to that extent, I would look into how to do the camera shake.
@cgcookiedough Not sure if this works with blender 2.8 but it might just be that easy: https://cgcookie.com/articles/creating-a-great-game-camera
I still feel like it would be for something bigger. It is only a 9mm bullet. If it were a rifle that shot it, that might be big enough to justify using a camera jolt. Thanks for the idea though. I can still use this stuff latter on. I appreciate you taking the time to help.
I think I'm ready to put this in the gallery. Here is what his mug shot looks like:
Here is the node monster I made creating him:
So you know, just because I have a lot of nodes, it doesn't mean I know what I'm doing. It just means I have a lot of nodes.
Nice work I like it a lot
A friend of my friend and I are having a competition. He says he knows he's better at blender than I am. I want to set him in his place.I need your help while I am doing this, because I have no idea how good he really is. He didn't send me any of his work.I want to learn as much as I can in the time of the competition. It starts tomorrow and will go on for one week.My friend, who doesn't know anything about blender, will be choosing the topic for the competition and will announce it tonight.
Looks like the theme is going to be Monopoly. Tomorrow I'm going to block out a few concepts.
I'm going to have things you would find on a farm as the characters. For the image, I'm gong to do it like how it is on the original game, but farm land instead of buildings and a farm version of the monopoly guy.
Dead line is tomorrow night. Fingers crossed that I can get this done in time.
This is my submission. I feel pretty confident in this. For this one, looks like I didn't get critique from anyone during this, so this is purely me and my ideas. If there was more time, I would have put more work into the crops, and add in some buildings too.
Uhh.... the kid tricked me. He didn't even do anything. This is what he said, "That's pretty good. I rly suck at blender, I just wanted to see what u could make"
Well, that's still a win for you then;)
If he didn't make anything, yours is even infinitely better.
I'm back in the world of art again. I took a break from blender to focus on other things for a while. I think I'll spend more or less, 30 minutes a day on it. You could say a took a break to study anatomy, but not from an artistic standpoint. I have a reference for what it looks like to be "Cut," Me! I'm working on my way to getting to Jacked, but I might settle for Ripped. Who knows!
Good all of this is just a hobby, because I can just drop everything if I need to.
Welcome back :) , I look forward to seeing what you come up with next!
Just leave it to life to get your hopes up for one thing, then turn around and give you something else. I don't know if I'll be doing Blender even 30 mins a day, but I just landed my first full time job... and I'm on the brink of finishing up high school. I really don't know what to expect right now.
*Big, deep sigh* Well, I spent more time on this one than I would like to admit. Got most of it ready for 3D printing. I still have to stylize the handle. I have all the joints and what not to make it move like it should. I have most of the connector pieces done. I probably didn't need to spend as much time as I did on topology, but I got most of it spic and span. I think it's safe to say I graduated the treasure chest tutorial. I will paint the 3D printed model in a similar way as was shown in the tutorial for the chest. I don't know if I have the will power to paint it in blender too.
Wow, I never knew the satisfaction of a four month project finally coming out as planned would feel so good.
Here's what I have so far:
