Optimize your modeling
As modern workflows have incorporated more sculpting, the previous techniques of box-modeling and poly-modeling have seen less use. In place of these older workflows is a new synergy between artistically-driven sculpting and technically-minded poly-modeling, through a process known as Retopology. Retopology is the act of recreating an existing surface with more optimal geometry. A common use-case is creating a clean, quad-based mesh for animation, but it's also used for most any final object that needs textured, animated, or otherwise manipulated in a way that sculpted meshes are not conducive to.

My mesh gets pinched when I smooth
My mesh pinched when I smoothed. I am using 2.8 so I just r-clicked and Shade Smooth. I don't think that is the cause, but just in case.
I recalculated normals. I verified that there is only on Vert in that corner. I moved it around. I just can't figure it out.6 Answers -

Subdivision modifier curving edge (2.80)

Subdivision modifier curving edge (2.80)
The edge in the center of the image is getting curved by the subsurf modifier, causing all kinds of chaos. Left alone, it causes a weird shading artifact. But when adding a loop cut as a holding edge, it tosses the new vertex out along that curve (in the same plane), causing the geometry to hang over the corner:
No amount of jiggling the vertices or recalculating normals seems to fix it. Setting the edge's Crease strength to 1 keeps it straight but causes more shading artifacts at the two vertices. As far as I can see, my geometry in that area is identical to yours.
Is there some way to fix that edge?

Black shadows along edge loops after subsurf
These black shadow lines appears on certain edge loops, and I am unable to get rid off them. Is it a common mistake on my end and I can fix it easily, or do I have to redo those areas?

Question about creases.

Question about creases.
When you increase the Mean crease on an edge is it only visually changed, like smooth shading? Or does it stay once you apply the subdivision modifier? For example if I were to create a model with the intention of 3D Printing it, when I export the file as an STL obviously the smooth shading would not carry over to the STL file. But if I had a Subdivision modifier and applied it during export it would smooth the file. So would the creased edges stay sharp at that point?

About the flat shapes after subsurf
Hi Jonathan!
Can the height difference between two vertex loops cause strange results?
https://i.imgur.com/OfAdsag.png
The first picture is what I got the first time I applied the subsurf modifier. After that, what I did to correct those shapes was deleting some vertex loops and extruding new loops from the closest ones. I don't know if the height was really the problem - on those faces circled by blue you can see that there's a vertex not on the same height as the others but the shape is not affected, making instead a concave edge - but this is my best guess at the moment.
Can you tell me anything that can cause the same strange results?
Thank you so much! (and sorry if my question seems a little confuse. English is not my first language)
