To answer my own comment, the solution was to set Grease Pencil to "object" instead of "scene" from the n-menu!

I was using the normal Sculpt UI, that worked but did't have all the functions, so I got the slightly modified one on this page. When I try to cut I get a n error that says "Draw a line with the grease pencil first" Even though I have. The result is that the grease line "cut" becomes an object on its own.1 Answer -
