Watch course trailer Get StartedCreating an Image Texture
Textures are 2D images that are designed to influence a 3D model's appearance. Whether it's simply to add color to a model like one would paint a clay sculpture, or to govern a specific material attribute, textures can be generated and painted by hand with Blender's built-in tools. The texture process begins with addressing a model's UV coordinates. UVs are the mechanism by which a 2D image is transposed on to a 3D model. It's an art form in itself to layout these coordinates to maximize texel density (amount of texture pixels utilized) while minimizing stretching (disproportion between the model and its UV's). After UV's are established, textures can be painted by hand using a Wacom pen and tablet. Textures can also be generated by "baking" geometric data into image texture format. Alternatively textures can be painted with an external application and easily brought back into Blender. CC Music: "Home Tonight" by DoKashiteru

Whenever I try to create a UV grid image texture for an object in Blender Render, the texture doesn't appear on the object in the viewport. Instead, the object just appears as pure black when in Texture mode. Am I forgetting to do something?2 Answers -

I have been experimenting with the UV mapping options, and when I start with a basic cube model and select 'Follow Active Quads' the UV map that is created is much bigger than the 1024 x 1024 px square of the canvass. I tried painting on the 'tabs' of the unwrapped box, but since they are outside of the canvass area, the painting tool doesn't affect them. Should I try to somehow shrink the UV quad to fit within the square canvass? Or is there another way to paint on these surfaces in UV view? Thanks!2 Answers -

When adjusting the eyebrow ridge of the UV texture, when I deselect all on the monkey, (pressing A), the UV texture disappears. unlike the example in the videos. Also my UV texture doesn't look the the example in the video. I have taken a couple of screen shots and a short video to illustrate the issue.1 Answer -

Then i chose texture from the bottom menu, and i get nothing. nothing is applied to my model. (Please find a way to disable this "enter key") Anyway... I'm at the point in the video where Kent says to press "New Material" ... And Presto! He's got these two panels on the screen of his node editor already. Except when I try that (And first I have to press the check mark for "Use nodes"...) My two panels are completely different. Also, I went through all the steps but my monkey never turned completely white. I find this course difficult because I basically have to ensure I do every step correctly--otherwise I find myself completely lost-- But I see stuff happening on the computer that's completely different than the lesson. Here's a screen shot of what I'm talking about-- these are the two panels that I've got... Any ideas for why that might be? Thanks. http://imgur.com/a/GBvs71 Answer -
