Grease Pencil doesn't work for me.

    Hey Colin, you definitely have the right idea - the purpose of the exercise was to show a technique and doesn't need to be tied to a specific tool IMO. Nicely done!

    forrest-harless Thanks for your thoughts and remarks. I 100% understand that the exercise is for the grease pencil but it's no bodies fault that the grease cut tool is outdated and only works on obsolete versions of Blender. At least me learning how to accomplish about the same results in a workflow I will be using shows I get the core concept. I understand it's not fair for the only 2 artists that did submit exercises but throughout the lesson, there are questions about the grease cut not working for them. One of the answers was from Kent Trammell saying to still submit if we can't use the grease cut tool, it skill means I'm learning and at the end of the day, that's what matters.

    Based on the merits of both, your HONEST explanation of why you were unable to achieve the grease pencil portion of the exercise and you ability to adapt to your deficiency and still produce a finished result, I'm offering a passing vote!

    It's not fair to the other artists who did achieve the results per the instructions but I don't think it's completely fair to ignore the effort to adjust to one's current position and situation! However, I would strongly urge you to go back and do this exercise (as many times as it takes) to get those favorable results! Your way is sharp and clean but at the end of the day, still not correct! Based on the work you did to the contrary (and the fact that you came clean) I'm guessing you'll not only figure it out but you'll re-submit a superior finished product!

The tool I found in the answers early on in this lesson don't use the grease pencil and also doesn't leave marks I can screenshot. I was able to screenshot the tool's keys and the add-on I used. It's called Object Carve MT. I think it's bundled with Blender 2.78. Also, there was no PSD template to download.

Point is, I can't show half of my work but I think it's pretty apparent that I tried my best to copy the workflow in the lesson. I could not achieve the wheels with the object curve so I made cylinders and scaled them to look like wheels because it's unlikely anyone would make wheels that way for function. I'm very aware that I'm not following the rules but I can't follow those rules because it does not work for me. 

Please pass me for my effort. Thank you.

Rules of the Exercise

    Create the car, Eiffel Tower, and airplane shapes.
  • 2
    Use only a mesh sphere and Grease Cut operator to achieve those 3 shapes. (Note: Grease Cut is part of the Sculpt Tools UI addon)
  • 3
    Sequential Grease Cuts match the number outlined by the exercise template. (i.e. 4 boxes = 4 grease cuts)
