Is this a good tool for projecting normal maps for video games?

That depends entirely on the original model that you’re retopologizing, but yes. In particular, if you’re doing a character then it can be very helpful in creating the lower resolution mesh for baking the normal maps to.

I’m a little confused. So, this is a free course on using a premium tool, namely, RetopoFlow? How can I benefit if I don’t buy the add-on?

That’s correct. RetopoFlow is a commercial add-on that I designed and built with the help of Jonathan Denning and Patrick Moore. This course is mostly beneficial to those that have purchased the tool or whom are at least interested in it.

      • In fact, it’s even more weird. It says it’s a free course but, even though I’m logged in to download the course files (I prefer to watch them offline), when I try to do that I recieve a pop-up asking me to upgrade to Citizen!!. Please boys, it’s bad to drink beer early in the morning!!

      • The course is free for streaming but downloads have always been a Citizen membership perk.

With the exception of resources and archived tutorials all downloads are Citizen only.

We serve a lot of files every month from our Amazon S3 account so keeping downloads limited to Citizen members helps cover costs.
