3DS Max: FinalRender Ocean Introduction

In this video for 3ds max, we’ll continue to talk about FinalRender features, and we’ll see how we can use Ocean primitive and Ocean shader to create a good quality sea animation in a very fast and simple way. We’ll take a general look at the Ocean shader parameters, and we’ll see every single mesh parameter, (we’ll talk about foam simulation in a future tutorial), and we’ll see how we can modify the sea mesh using standard 3ds max modifier to have a complete control over shape and final look.

Very welcome tutorial, but, where’s the foam surrounding the teapot for an instance ?
I think foam parameters should be adressed too, as you said in the beginning of the tutorial.

      Hi Luiz,

you are perfectly right. We’ll release a new tutorial to talk just about foam generation and to creare a more complex scene. Thanks for the comment.

Fantastic! Came over from BlenderCookie just to get an idea about 3d
max. Saw your render and now I would like to learn more. The wave caps look so real, very sharp edges, I can feel getting seasick. Good job!

Excellent tutorial! Mind telling me how you achieved the water highlight twinkle-sparkles on the surface? i’m actually trying to figure out how to do that in vray right now…

It is a really simple lighting effect due to the sun position and the specularity of the surface. We’ll prepare soon a VRay sea/ocean tutorial :)

This tutorial is great! Any chance you could tell us how to create the sparkle-highlights on the surface of the water?
