With this tutorial for 3ds max we’ll start a new fx related series. We’ll take a look at how to create a volcano smoke, trying to simulate a big scale smoke volume with FumeFX. In part 1 we’ll start preparing a simple volcano mesh, and adding a basic PFlow emitter that will be main FumeFX source. We’ll start tuning basic simulation/dynamic parameters and a little bit of look. In part 2 we’ll finalize it to obtain final
motion and realistic rendering.

FumeFX is required for this tutorial View the results

I really love the direction this website is heading Alesandro, these topics are rare gems.

Apart from that a little request, vray is a great render engine, do you think it will suit vfx related scenarios such as this ?

Thanks to you and the CG cookie network for sharing your invaluable knowledge with us, I wish you all the very best!

How do you change the smoke color in the new version?! Can’t find any place where it explains how it’s done.
    Thanks

Hi David, to change the smoke color, you have to go in the “Rend” panel, then you can find the “color” parameter in the “Smoke” section. If you have still problems with it, please contact me.
