In this new tutorial for 3ds max, we’ll start to talk about Skinning. This tutorial will be the start of a new line talking about character modeling, rigging, animation and skinning, so we’ll take a look at basic features using Skin modifier and Physique modifier. We’ll see how to setup a rough arm skeleton and how to add it using skinning to deform a cylinder, then we’ll talk about envelopes and muscles using bulge editors, and the skin deformers to avoid and solve problems.

    Cool Tutorial man !

I’ve always had problems understanding the tools for rigging/skinning, and not just in Max. I got a question though. Is this whole lattice deformation thing okay to use for Games Characters skinning? I know that in animation for games you got all kinds of limitations that you don’t have in animation for, say, production, mostly due to Real Time and all.

I’ve watched quite a few tuts about rigging and skinning for games, and they don’t usually mention the lattice deformations. They generally stick to the bone tools and adjust the influence on the vertices without necessarily editing the envelopes themselves, so that’s why I was wondering whether the lattice deformers are okay to use for Real Time purposes.

Thanks again Italian neighbour (I’m French ^^)
