In this new tutorial for 3ds max 2011, we’ll start to work on a simple but complete project.

We’ll create a modern lamp, trying to achieve a good and realistic lighting and photorealistic result.

We’ll try to use new 2011 features as Material explorer, Slate Material Editor, Graphite Modeling Tools, Quicksilver and older features as Schematic view etc. In Part 1, we’ll start with poly modeling and basic shading and lighting.

hello, I’m rather new to 3DS Max and i’m finding it very difficult, but the one thing that is stopping me from learning your tutorials the most is when you go to rotate or move any object you get these arrows or lines that you click and it will move the object in a specific direction. now when i had first downloaded the program it worked fine i had those arrows and everything, but i was clicking around and i must have hit something that turned them off can you help me get them back?

It is better if you start with :

3DSMax File menu –> Help –> Essential Skills Movies

then make sure you finish some of the tutorials on :

        3DSMax File menu –> Help –> tutorials

after that I guess you will feel more comfortable in following CGC Tuts

        best wishes

It’s Gizmo, you can toggle it on and off by pressing “X”, Haven’t you watch the movie included in the installation? the first time you run max you’ll see the start up screen every time unless you ignore it and disabled it.
