Welcome to the Citizen Resource Week Giveaway!

Are you a citizen member and feeling left out? Well I refuse to let you feel that way! Working on the new Concept Cookie site update has been going quite well and since it is looking like it won’t launch in this month, I wanted to let citizen members know that they will still be receiving exclusive material for September. So along with doing this Citizen Resource Week Giveaway, I’m here to also announce that I have just started working on a creature course that will be slated for later in the month!

So for this resource giveaway I am going to focus on anatomy. This is because when creating character concept art, I consider nothing to be more important than having an understanding of the underlying anatomy and how to break the body down into shapes and create a body shape that is believable and functional. This week will focus on those anatomy resources for you to study and use as a reference in your own pieces!

Theses resources are under a Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Unported License, MEANING: Free to use and work upon, no need for referencing back or giving credit!

If you would like to upgrade and become a citizen member, CLICK HERE!

The Resources

If you would like the free anatomy resource that was given in the last giveaway as an example of what will be given away this week for citizens,

check out the free anatomy resource on the arms below!

Free Resource: Anatomy Reference | The Arms [download]

Tuesday: Anatomy Reference | The Legs download below  ↓

The legs have a lot of similarities to the arms, so it seemed natural to create the legs anatomy reference sheets next. Just like the arm resource, in this download you will receive a .PSD that has a layer for each view on the front, side, and back of the skin, muscle, and bone layers.

Wednesday: Anatomy Reference | The Male Upper Body download below  ↓

With the arms and legs done, here is the core of our anatomy structures: the upper body. Since male and females have slightly different anatomy when it comes to the upper body I decided to split this one up into a male and female reference sheet.

As with all the anatomy resources, in this download you will receive a .PSD that has a layer for each view (front, side, back) with each of the skin, muscle, and bone layers.

Thursday: Anatomy Reference | Hands download below  ↓

Today’s resource are the hands. Included in the download are the skin and bones layers for you to look at and use as a reference in your work.

Friday: Anatomy Reference | The Female Upper Body download below  ↓

Today we add in the female portion of the upper body. While there are plenty of similarities, the different genders do have enough differences in the shape and structure that I believe it is necessary to include both a male and female resource reference for you citizen members to download!

Monday: Anatomy Reference | The Male Human Body download below  ↓

Here it is. The last day of the citizen anatomy giveaway week and to bring it all to a close, here is the stitched together anatomy reference of the entire male human body.
I hope you guys enjoyed this resource week as much as I had fun creating them!

My photoshop CS6 says “Some text layers contain fonts that are missing. These layers will need to have the missing fonts replaced before they can be used for vector based output.” I’m not sure what that means.

Oh that is for the font that we use here at CG Cookie, since it is not a built in font, it is just letting you know that it is missing but nothing will be affected if you just click ok!

Hey Tim, managed to download the legs reference without a citizen account. Just a quick heads up (However, I am stumping up the cash this week).

Looking forwards to all the good stuff that’s coming up.

Working on some anatomy reference plates of my own, will post on my gallery (once I have checked it against you awesome work).

I like flipping through the different groupings (Bones, Muscles, Outline). It’s almost like looking at a skeleton or zombie.

    Very nice work!

I’m getting a quarterly citizen membership just for this and many other other things but mainly this. Great work and keep up the amazing tutorials and references! By the way I’d like to point out that you can access some sort of admin panel for your website account by going to this link: http://cgcookie.com/wp-admin/profile.php

I don’t think that was intended to be a part of the website experience. :D

look, I am NOT a very good drawer. I am 10 years old. I feel that if I don’t know how to draw in real life, I won’t be a good concept artist. But photoshop makes it look so easy. please teel me what you think, because it’s so frustraiting to want to start photoshop (My pen tablets arrive this friday) with the feeling that I have no future! please, give me your advice.

P.s I’m homeschooled. So answer the comment whenever you want! :)

Hey there, I believe that you must become familiar with the art foundations first whether it is traditional or digital. If you practice and learning things like value, form, color theory, and lighting techniques than you’ll be a great artist no matter what field you’re going into, even concept art! It’s awesome to hear that you are ten years old and already receiving a tablet!, I didn’t get my first one till I was about 20 years old. If I could show you my work when i was ten i can promise that you will get much better if you set your mind, time, and effort into it!

Thanks Tim! but 1. Where can I find art foundations? if you know one website that teaches them, please recommend them. and 2. Can I learn art foundations with photoshop? Thanks for everything! I only ask you to answer these two questions and I won’t bother you again. :)

Never feel like you can’t ask me questions, that’s part of my job :D
To learn the foundations, it is best to practice, practice, and practice. This could be from people to animals, still life, etc. For basic studies, try drawing out a sphere with correct lighting, and then try the other basic shapes: cube, cone, etc. Also having a teacher helps greatly. I do believe you can learn the fundamentals with Photoshop! Let me know if you ever have any other question!

Wow Tim, you’re awesome! Thanks for the advice! But can I try doing the fundamentals in photoshop? I mean I got my pen tablet early! it was supposed to arrive today, but it arrived three days earlier! So anything involving photoshop I jump right to the chance! Or do you recommend studying with plain paper and pencil?
