Hello and Welcome to A Concept Cookie Resource: Bullet Shell Brushes by Tim Von Rueden

Have you ever seen a concept art piece that has flying bullets being pumped out of a machine gun? Well rather than trying to draw each one individually, here is a way to speed up that process!

In this Tutorial+Resource, we take a look at how to create a bullet shell brush and playing with the different brush settings can give you a different effect. If you would rather just download the brushes they are included in the source files or can be found below ↓

Bullet Shell Brushes: Download Here

Here is a glimpse at what the video tutorial covers:

First I Defined the Shape of the Shell, making sure to keep the proportions the same on the sides

Then I add a soft value to it, enough to give it a rounded shape feel to it

Define as a Brush

After increasing the spacing, You now have a sequential bullet shell belt

After messing with the Shape Dynamics and Scattering settings, we are now left with a storm of bullets

Thanks for watching and if you have any questions or comments feel free to leave them in the section below ↓↓

    Hey Tim,

The download is crupted. I have downloaded the zip twice & both times WinZip 16.0 Pro says it is crupt.

Hmm I’m not sure to why that was but I just re-uploaded the new compressed files, let me know if there seems to still be a problem or not for you.

        Tim,

Downloaded the new zip. Unziped it & checked all 3 files & they are fine. Don’t know what happened with the orginal WinZip kept telling me it was not an archive file & when it opened it nothing was there. Weird. You know what they say sometimes “sh__ happens”. Thanks for re-upload.

        You guys rock,

In Photoshop the [ and ] keys will increase and decrease your brush size by an increment at a time. I prefer using the circle sizing which is done by holding down control + option and then dragging your tablet pen left or right on the tablet to resize. Hope this helps!

I never thought about doing it that way!

I love how often you make videos and how thorough you are; I could sit here all day and watch your videos.

For me, the best part about this video (and all the others) is that I can apply these concepts and tools to any sort of project that I’m working on. I get inspired just watching you and am definitely getting addicted to this site.
