Hello and Welcome to this exclusive Citizen Resource: The Metal Brush

along with downloading the brush***
Hey everyone, I have been recently working on a character that required a lot of metal work, from the outer armor and helmet to the chain mail. Instead of trying to work up the detail using one of the Photoshop standard brushes, I created a surface metal brush that I was able to use for the entire metal work on this character.

Below are a few tutorials that may be useful for you if you would like to practice creating your own metal brushes or if you would like a run down on drawing metal:
Creating a Custom Brush in Gimp - This will explain how to create a custom brush in gimp and how to use it in the future.
Creating a Custom Brush in Photoshop - This will explain how to create a custom brush in Photoshop and how to use it in the future.

Hey,any chance in making a tutorial (maybe for citizens)on texturing skin on a 3d character.Maybe follow it up with texturing the 3d characters eyes, clothes, equipment, etc.

Excellent! I have been having so much trouble painting my metal armour.
I was wondering, Someone mentioned chainmail. I made a tutorial a while back on chainmail, just a quick picture & words tutorial. But it goes through the basics of making properly linking chainmail. I’d be willing to share it if I’m allowed.
Yeah that would be great, could you send me the link to check it out?
I tried to figure out a way to send this to you a little more directly, but I didn’t see a way to send a PM or email.

I just wanted to say that cgcookie has opened up so many possibe paths to get to the same point is way beyond what the subscription costs reflect. There is real knowledge with the eagerness to teach from this site.
Thanks to everyone.
I’m a Citizen but I cant seem to download the source file even when right clicking.
Maybe the link is dead!!
Thanks for pointing this out, it’s most likely due to the new “brushes” page that was created after this post and all the brushes now have download links there instead now. You can find the metal brush under the citizen brushes stock! http://cgcookie.com/concept/2012/10/16/concept-cookie-brushes/
Thanks ahaha I too had the same problem of Frederick LOL anyways thanks again for the cool info that you have given ^^
I can’t download it
The metal brush is included on the brush page which can be found here: http://cgcookie.com/concept/2012/10/16/concept-cookie-brushes/
