Hello and welcome to creating a Neon Glow Effect using Photoshop.

In this video tutorial Tim Von Rueden takes a look at creating the Neon glow effects using the different layer effects.

Here is a quick look at the layer effect settings below to get the neon glow on your shape or text  ↓↓

  • Drop Shadow (multiply) black color
neon sign
  • Outer Glow ( linear light) orange color
  • Inner Glow (multiply) red color

and from there any brush you use on that layer will give that effect on the brush. Having results like below ↓

and then you can apply it to a textured background and then you have yourself a neon sign!

    Tim,

Are there any way to see what keys are you pressing as we have seen in Blender tutorials?

I’m new in Photoshop and sometimes it’s hard for me to follow what keys did you pressed.

There should be explanations on the getting started in Photoshop series towards the beginning of the concept cookie section :)

Do you mean you would like to see them located on the main Concept cookie page?

I believe if you right click the layer in the layer window and select “rasterize layer” it performs the same function as merging down into a normal layer.
