Hello and Welcome to Creating a Custom Brush in Photoshop

In this video and step by step tutorial we take a look at how to go about creating a custom brush in the software, Photoshop using the pre-set brushes to create a whole new one.

What is Covered?

In this tutorial, Tim Von Rueden takes you through two ways of creating a custom brush. First is saving out a brush with preferred settings, and the second is creating a brush from scratch.

↓ Below is a step by step in screens that were taken from the tutorial. ↓

↓ The first process below saves settings on a pre-made brush ↓

Step 1 – Edit the settings in the Brushes menu on any given brush, in this case, we turned a standard hard edge brush into a sharp spiky brush.

Step 2 – Drop down the Brush Preset Picker and select the new preset (the post it note)

Hi there are a few ways to increase/decrease your brush size in Photoshop. The main one I use is holding down control+option (on mac) then dragging your tablet pen left to decrease and right to increase the size of your brush. It is the fastest way I have found but another way is the [ and ] brackets to increase and decrease the size while holding them down.
