For Concept Cookie’s first contest, Coloring in the Lines with Kara, I decided I would show my take on how I would go about coloring her. Using the given lineart from David Revoy, I go and use the color building technique and build my shading and lighting values right on top.

Actual Production Time: 54 min

Music: Soundtrack 1.0 by Stefano Mocini http://www.jamendo.com/en/track/743691

Please Tim– less time lapses!! The instructional videos are way more helpful.
I can find a million good time lapses online. But I come to the cookie to find what I cant find anywhere else.

It’s good to see that you come to cookie for what you can’t receive any where else and I create the timelapses for two reasons mainly. 1) Because for some people it’s easier to learn visually, even for me, I learn more from watching someone do something than having them explain what they are doing, so create these for those type of learners and 2) because they’re really enjoyable to make, I have a lot less pressure when I can just focus on drawing rather than teaching. Don’t worry, I don’t plan on ever posting more than one or two every two weeks. The instructional tutorials will always have more postings :D

I agree, with timelapses, one stroke that looks so easy is in fact the result of what took the artist years to master.

So as a beginner it’s impossible to get much out of just starring, and it can even be depressing since we are wondering how the heck are we going to reproduce this stuff when we can’t even go past the first strokes.
