For this Friday Citizen Exclusive tutorial we take you through the second part of drawing a robot in Photoshop, this time focusing on the body. I go through laying down base colors and shapes and then build on it with outlines and also how to create a glow effect.

    I’m looking forward to watching this! I’ve notice a jump in quality in my work since watching the concept tutorials. Really glad you guys started baking 2D cookies!

    This is great Tim. This is exactly what I’d like to see more of. Stylized, non-photorealistic cartoon characters. Im working on a game project and im having a hard time making expressive chibi-like(big head small body) characters. It would be great to have more tutorials like that =)

      Something you could probably try is “sketching” the characters in Blender. You could make a normal proportioned character out of flat planes – something kind of like the wooden drawing mannequins. It might be helpful to have the different parts separate to tweak them individually easier and fairly dense from subdividing to have more verts to tweak. Then duplicate it so you have a safe copy and start doing tweaking using the proportional editing tool. I wouldn’t slave over them, just do it for a few minutes then duplicate another one right next to it and start doing the same thing. Then when you get one you like you could render it with a black shadeless material on a white background or with an alpha channel to take into Gimp or Photoshop to detail out.

      Might be worth giving a shot. I hope I explained it well enough and didn’t confuse you. Good luck with your project!

      Thanks, yeah I’m actually practicing for one of my next tutorials, which will be on creating chibi’s.

        Haha, yeah as of now that’s the plan we we’re thinking, I would expect the chibi tutorial series to come right after the next one we had planned out, which is an anime character.

    Hi, it’s a great tutorial, thank you so much. With this I will improve my art.
    I am experimenting the benefits of being a citizen and it’s great but I can’t download these videos.
