In this tutorial I take a look at importing custom nature brushes into Gimp and Photoshop. Then I give a quick demo using these brushes to create a simple nature landscape.

      • I think that may be the best “misunderstanding” I have ever heard from something I’ve said! Love it.

Do the scattering and other dynamic of these brushes work the same way in GIMP?

  9. Hi,
I try to use the nature brushes, but the “images” are always upside down and I can’t change their direction. It’s quite annoying when I want to create some branches. Any idea how it could be solved? I use Photoshop CS4 and a Genius pad.
    Thank you very much!
    Great tuts, keep working.

You mean the brushes are viewed as upside down? That is odd but there is a setting in the brush settings that makes the branch follow the direction of the brush. So try turning that off first and if it’s still a problem let me know!

      • Thanks a lot!
It helped. The only thing I don’t understand is that how you place the tree branches in different angles without rotating them. I watched 1000 times your tut, but not figured out. Sorry for being so stupid but I just started to use photoshop a few days ago. I’m a “Blender man” and your tuts inspired me to try to learn at least the basics of your art.

OH gotcha, okay, so that is because in the brush settings under “Shape Dynamics” I have “Angle Jitter” turned on with the control set to “pen tilt”. This way the branches will be placed in whichever direction I tilt my pen when pressing down on the tablet. Let me know if that helps!

Amazing man! I always used Fireworks from Adobe and was very frustrated with Photoshop, and step by step I learned how to extract the best of this tool as I did from the Fireworks!
