To get the petal shape, I added a cloth modifier and weight painted the flower until it fell the way I wanted. Then applied the shape and removed the cloth modifier.

    Cool. You should work on a shadow and light, maybe play with sampling of a shadow.

      Thanks for the tips. I changed the lighting to sun with raytrace shadows sampling about 5 and set the soft size to .2. I think it turned out nice.

    Interesting. You’ll definitely want to clean up that shadow, though. And you could add a little transparency or subsurface scattering to the petals so they don’t look so thick.

      I appreciate the tip. I wasn’t able to get subsurface scattering working (didn’t try it very long) so I set transparency to about .9 and it does soften the petals up nicely. I will try to resubmit after tweaking it a bit more.
