Having a little problem with my parts of my car. I modeled the whole thing and then used "p" to separate them so that one material wouldn't effect any other. Once I put on the coating for my exterior of my car, EVERYTHING was effected and I have no clue WHY or HOW I can change it so that they are all separate parts that have different materials on them. anyone solve my problem?? thanks

An Nvidia card is not absolutely necessary but it will give you a big speed boost. Unfortunately Cycles cannot use your Radeon card currently so it'll default to the CPU.

Personally I recommend a GTX 580 or similar: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=gtx+580+evga

I have a new Nvidia card I was going to put in my computer. I'm not prepared to do it just yet, but is it absolutely necessary to have an Nvidia card for Cycles to render at its best? Or can I get by with my Radeon for the moment?

Jonathan renders with a gtx 580 4Gb.
The gpu is millions of times faster than rendering on the cpu.

Just a question about hardware..
What processor are you using?

I am on an old i5 570 with a GTX 260 and win 7. When I do the render I noticed that it takes me 40 seconds to do 20/20 samples while on your video you make 200/200 below 10 seconds.

Is it the performance of the processor or the GPU that makes the difference?

Hi, Jonathan. I've been watching all your tutorials and I have to say: I never saw so much quality job and explained with this perfect simplicity. Awesome! Congrats. I had one general question: I notice you use Windows when you're rendering and in some moments you use a Mac. I have a Imac 2,5 inches 2011 late and I suffer to render. Is that the reason for your different computers, or was it coincidence? I'm brazilian an learn english watching tutorials (like yours). Tnks, Adauto A. Araujo.
