Hello and welcome to another free Citizen resource! This female character model is a resource that is freely available to all of our CG Cookie Citizens as a perk for being a member.
This full female character model basemesh was created with excellent, clean, quad-only topology that is ideal for rigging and provides an excellent starting point for either a more detailed model or as a sculpting basemesh. The model is fully rigged and uv unwrapped. As a Citizen member you are free to use the female character model for anything you wish, personal or commercial.
This model is based on a Creative Commons licensed model, also developed by Jonathan Williamson and available on BlendSwap here:

If you happen to use the model, let us know as we would love to see how this asset is being helpful to the community.
Enjoy!

Super Awesome!!!
COOL!!!!
Citizen only, but also on Blendswap? Are they different licenses?
The one on blendswap is model and lighting set up only not rigged and unwrapped.
Thanks!!!!!
I generally prefer the exclusive tuts over resources, but this is awesome! I think at the very least I will use her to pose and draw from. People copy Master paintings to improve so why not with 3D model? I’ll have to try appending her into my file with the female turnaround sheet that I started.
Here’s a link for you. 3d models for drawing, you don’t have do do the set up of the scene, just pick a pose and a camera angle… http://www.posemaniacs.com
I appreciate the link. I’ve used posemaniacs.com before. There is value in having to setup the scene if you need something specific or for using the model for staging purposes. I could need a specific prop that I could pose her with, etc. Best of luck and hope you find some good uses for her.
I agree with Jabessette25, tutorials are the best. But having a quality model like this that can be modified is much appreciated!
need update my account
This is awesome!
This might be a silly question but it says in the description that as a citizen I can use it however I want. I am a citizen now when I’m downloading it but does the “licence” apply if even when my citizenship expires?
Cool thanks Jonathan! I did notice that the ring to pose her head wasn’t working. You might look into that.
It’s working fine for me.
Jonathan, You might want to change the icon that says “Citizen tutorial”, because this isn’t a tutorial.
It’s working here. What happens when you try and move it?
I have found the issue, When I un-zipped it, the controls for the head were unlocked, just a little glitch I guess.
Thanks a ton.
Thanks, I’ll check it out and analyse it for learning purposes, as I prefer to model my own characters.
Jonathan,
1st of all Thanks very much for the execellent Model, great work as usual. Now a request/suggestion. How about some tutorials using this model as the basis of some typical uses that she could be put to. I had in mind something like how you would go about designing a wardrobe for her or using her in a game with our robot friend as her trusty side kick, to name but a couple of things that come to mind. I guess what I am trying to say is that I would like to see are tutorials on how you tie all the pieces together.

That’s a great suggestion Daniel, added to my list!
Will the unwrapping be covered in the tutorials for texturing the female body made in the other tut series?
Awesome! Cheers.
Magic Jonathan! Thank you very much, this modeling is a real gift!
Great resource, Jonathan! You always come out with the most helpful stuff!
I wanted to point out a problem I had with the hand IK bones. When I tried moving them, the bone moved but the hand didn’t move along with it. The problem was that the forearm bones didn’t have IK constraints on them. I fixed it but I wanted to point it out in case anyone else has the same problem. Just select the forearm.L bone, go to Bone Constraints, add an Inverse Kinematics constraint, and make hand_ik.L the target bone, then set Chain Length to 2. Repeat for the right side.
Thanks again!
heh, I became a citizen just to download this because I am having major issues with my rigging and your wonderful model. Is that lame of me or what? Don’t answer that!
My main question is can I use this as a base model with rigging for my webcomic providing that I do not release the model itself? I merely want to be able to make my comic a little quicker. I could probably continue rigging what I have but my main issue is with your fingers in their relaxed state when I go to make the hands I have great trouble with the roll and once I get one hand right then the other hand is all messed up despite me using mirror, duplicate and flip. (not in that order)
woops, didnt open the file to look until after the post. I will soon feature it in my webcmic (or at least in my deviant art, which I use like a development blog) which is accessible via my site http://insanityofxade.com
Lovely work. I really enjoy this and can really see a use for her as a base model for all of my characters in my webcomic if I can get her to work. Comic –> http://insanityofxade.com After extensive studying of it I really think that the Citizenship is really worth the money and really helps you, the webmaster, out. I have a number of questions, pertaining to this model and I will try my best to say them in one post since I cannot edit these. Forgive the explanations, for I feel it best that I tell you what I am used to then see if I can get your model to do something similar.
1.)I am an experienced prop modeler and I am used to the daz3d family of software that I either bought or … acquired by other means to fit my limited budget. Suffice it to say almost 99% of what I actually used in IoX was paid for, or modeled by me. Anyways, in Hexagon the program that is used with Daz3d, (which has nothing on Blender once you can figure it out) it allowed you to use multiple UV maps for one model, say the head, body and limbs could each have their own UV, and thus their own texture map. This loads faster than one giant texture. Although it makes it rather hard to match up the texture in a paint program this system works well for mutli tasking behind the scenes. Is there a tutorial detailing how to do this with your wonderful model so that I don’t feel cramped while painting it?
2.) I do not seem to be able to use symmetry, I fully enjoyed your free version for the use of the mirror modifier, I was able to morph or change her form without effort and know that it was being mirrored over to the other side. I made one version of her very anime and started working on a male version before realizing that I should rig it before I make the changes. However, I noticed that you applied the mirror modifier so I really want to know how I can either restore it, without messing up the rig and weight paints, or duplicate the effect on the other side with the weight paints, or whatever you used, so I can add morphs.
3.) Is there a tutorial somewhere that will allow me to say, spin a dial and give her different shapes on demand? Okay, for example, In Daz Studio there is one model that all the others are built off of and by spinning a few dials I could turn her into her anime counterpart, or even male with his anime counterpart. This model is called Genesis just because she (default gender is female) is the base form, and what you start with. This is what I would love to do with your resource so that I can model one outfit to her and using shrinkwrap (If I understand its use properly) I can change …oh I’ll call her “Joan Will” for reference, to give her the comic female base form, then dial up her definition for one character, who is a strong female, then hide the ears, because she is a felinoid with her ears higher up and requires separately modeled ears, and have the clothing follow. Then I would save that in a blend file as Cat and reload the Joan Will and start a new character, this one male. Spin dials, use the same UV map for all characters built off Joan Will, ect.
4.) Can I add details like finger/toenails and stuff to Joan Will without messing any of the weight painting or the UVs. Or would I have to re-UV her? If I must reUV her then how can I remove/change the UVs? (this might be related to question one)
5.) I noticed that your rig doesnt seem to have a curl fingers modifier as featured in ‘Rigging Easy-to-animate Fingers’ I found this an invaluable (concept) tool for easy animating figures. Did you forget it or is there another way within your rig? My characters will often use their hands, just like we do. My goal is a 3d comic that avoids the talking head syndrome that often plagues other comics, much like http://www.thedreamlandchronicles.com/ does. Careful, very good story there, only read if you have lots of time. I do not want to ruin your wonderful rig with my inexperienced bumbling, so how would I add that? Is it similar to the tutorial?
Well, that’s all I can think of right now I eagerly await your reply. Thanks for reading and thanks for your wonderful site to help lesser experienced blenderheads like myself.

Nice ! Thanks.
Thanks !
Thanks Jonathan

hey, where are the textures for the file?
It doesn’t have any textures. Which textures are you looking for?
Cool Resource! This will be a great resource to study from. A high poly female model will be my next project.
Any chance for a full Male Base Mesh fully-rigged?
It’s on my hopeful to-do list
Awesome! I was wondering, is it a good practice to make a rigged base to use for a bunch of characters. Once the rig is made, make all the animations you want. Then model out your final characters saving each one after starting from the base? So that animations and such can be exported easily and quickly once done? I just figure, how many different animations can there be for a game character…
Will the rigging work with UDK?
It should, at least for the most part. The constraints may not work, but I am not positive as I have very little UDK experience.
It should work fine if you export the animation using the UDK Add-ons. Oddly enough there are 2 UDK Export Add-ons in blender. I’ve found that one of them just doesnt work.
I hope this helps.
Hey, the download source button doesn’t work o.o
Cheers
Works for me, try refreshing.

download doesnt work for me either :<
Got the file but the model itself is having some weird issue, that it doesnt like Hair Particles + Child Options activated….
I’d really like to use this model but this issue will prevent me from doing so xD… I tried making a new blend file and appending the base mesh but that didnt work. Meanwhile on the same file I can add a new object and add hair that works <_<;
HMM o.0 actually its doing the same thing for all my models now. I dont understand heh.
Download button isn’t working.
