Pumpkins are back and in style! Each year we see these gourd like squashes emerge onto porches and local stores. Just about everyone obtains these orange bumpy friends, makes an attempt at thrusting a sharp blade into them to create epic, visual greatness that the neighbor kids would be jealous of.
This year we want to see what the digital artists of Blender Cookie can come up with on their pumpkins.
Pumpkin Fun Fact of the Year:
“The word pumpkin originates from the word pepon (πέπων), which is Greek for “large melon”. The French adapted this word to pompon, which the British changed to pumpion and later American colonists changed that to the word we use today, “pumpkin”.” – wikipedia
Similar to our snowman contest ran back when we were younger, we are judging these pumpkins on overall impressions. We want to keep the contest light hearted, short and not too stressful for the involved folks. However, to obtain an outstanding overall impression, things such as presentation, texturing, modeling and lighting come into play.
Judges this time around will be: Jonathan, Wes, Tim, and Alessandro.
How to Enter: (Ends OCT 24th)
- Model an epic pumpkin that a Rancor would shutter in fear at the mere site of it.
- Submit your image using the “User Submit Image” Button below.
- Final image should be 1280×720 / .jpg with your name as the file name
- You may only enter ONCE, so make it count.
- YES, it must be your own work, appropriately licensed textures and your own sweat and tears.

How to keep your pumpkin from being smashed!
Smashing pumpkins can admittedly be fun, but for this contest we want to keep your pumpkin in the running for the tantalising prizes. So to avoid getting your pumpkin obliterated on some tarmac… remember the following:
- Final render must be rated PG, would you show it to Mickey Mouse?
- You MAY use props to add to your pumpkin.. (PG props)
- You MAY paint your pumpkin
- You MAY carve your pumpkin
- You MAY have fun
- You MUST use your own model and and appropriately licensed textures. No sneaking in model files from past tutorials.. yes we can tell.
- Rendering may be done in either the Blender Internal or Cycles render; let’s keep it open to everyone!

I placed both in the name and submission name to cover all bases.
Also added my signature/logo to the bottom right corner. Rules don’t mention that as either.

Is there any chance we could have monthly contests? I really like it. I like watching others creations and bashing my head when nothing comes out like i want to.
Sum up: i’d love to have monthly contests even without prizes. I know it takes time and you’re all busy. Hope it’ll go trough anyways.

Sorry guys for the delay – yah we are working to have images auto-approved, and just have a “report image” added to the site. Between Jonathan and Myself I think we have had to manually approve 80+ images.

Sorry for the problem, but I cannot register to enter because the conformation email never got to me. I tries multiple times yesterday and as of yet, I have not gotten any. I entered my exact adress and have checked in my spam blocker and any other place it could be. What should I do? Thanks so much. Hopefully I can get it in time! Dang! I can’t use Blender because it is all greek to me! I would make it in 3ds max but it wouldn’t be accepted! Why don’t we 3ds max users get these contests???

I know I’m too late qith this question anyway but what does “You may only enter ONCE, so make it count.” exactly mean. I interpreted it, that I can only upload my entry ONCE and only ONE image. I’m pretty sure that some of the contestants re-uploaded their images with some improvments.
Can someone, please, at least comment on mine? I know I won’t win, but I put a lot of work into it.

I finally got done, but I am sure it’s not a first rate production. With time I’ll get better. Gotta learn the schematics of it all first. My blend file is just something else. At least I used Blender without any outside sources, editors, etc.. It’s been a HELL-O-WEEK here!
