Modeling the Female Body Series – part 06

In this Blender 2.5 modeling tutorial series we go through the entire process of modeling a detailed, female body. This tutorial puts a strong emphasis on topology and anatomy, making use of photo referenced from 3d.sk

In part 06 of this series we model the ear, spending time to setup the topology in order to achieve a clean, detailed result.

Once the modeling is complete in this series we will move onto texturing the final model.

Seriously Jonathan, you should think about selling a complete tutorial based on the generation of a full body model from a photograph. No one else has done this that I am aware. Mostly generic or clothed figures are used instead. “The Nature Academy” was very successful. We want you to keep doing this.

The vertex snapping bit threw me off. I didn’t see you press the key, but I had to hold down [Control] to get the vertex snapping to work (after constraining the selected vertices to the X-axis and enabling snap via. Control-Shift-Tab). Maybe this was added in 2.59. A quick search found the “control” key trick.
    Cheers!

Nope, I still have to finish it. I have been completely tied up with my Mastering Modeling workshop and so have been unable to dedicate any time to this series. Rest assured it will be finished, though.

How did you maintain such a smooth finish in the ear. Mine has lots of squares (pixels). I don’t understanding given my face is a smooth as yours.

I figured the above problem out. You go to object mode, then press smooth. Not sure why this occurred.

Whew, okay they should all be fixed for real now. Thanks for pointing it out! Luckily these problems shouldn’t happen with CG Cookie 4.0 when it’s released as we’re changing the way series are ordered. It should be much easier to manage :)

Awesome xD I’m looking forward to it!

btw where might I put in a tutorial request? I’ve been searching for a way to make some sort of magical spell animation without using particles to do it <_<; and not modeling it from scratch. I mean like making a few textures in photoshop and making them go WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE in blender to make something special xD..
