In this Photoshop tutorial we look at how to create some character silhouettes to turn into final renders. We start with gesture posing, move onto proportion drawing and finish off with a few character silhouettes.

Note: please let us know what you think of this kind of tutorial in the comments below! We realize it is not Blender, and it is not GIMP but it is an integral part of the character design process and is an area of education we are interested in exploring further (including GIMP tutorials!)

i dont understand why the canvas was set to 17×11 and 300 dpi, when you never zoomed out and stayed at 16% it would be the same as having an image that is 3×2 at 300 dpi. (or so) the file would be much smaller and and you would have more ram for all the other process, not to metion the bucket fill would be much faster.

16% is zoomed out if he was at 100% then he would be in a very small window and wasting space, it’s a little backwards I know but that’s how it works, he was in full view of his 17 X 11 image

The only thing that would make this tutorial better is if it would impart just a little more ability into me, so i could actually make it past the stick figure step.

LOVED this, and im going to keep attempting it until i get a result that pays homage to the amazing output of this tutorial!

+1 for digital painting tutorials, as long as its not off from the resources to produce the good quality Blender tutorials.

    Tim, thanks for these two!
