In this quick Blender 2.5 video tutorial we go over some of the recent changes to the LuxRender exporter for Blender 2.5; LuxBlend. Since our previous tutorials covering this topic several major features have been added, most importantly the ability to save and load materials.

Note: many of these features are still under development and so expect changes and/or instability

Fantastic, thanks for the heads-up! I’d been looking forward to material load/save with 0.8, this really was a must-have.

how timely that you enlighten me as to the existence of luxrender 0.8, and exactly what i did wrong, thanks maybe i can get it to work now!

Nice update on the new luxblend features. it’s really starting to shape up. All we need now is to push blender too 2.6! and stabilize all this ^^

does it still have trouble supporting radeon 4850s for gpu rendering, small luxgpu hasn’t as many problems but luxrender never worked with it.

    Hi!

When I tried to use Luxrender 7 on a model with UV textures, the seams were quite visible. I’ve read that this was due to Luxrender using a different subsurface algorithm than the one used by Blender. Do you know if this was true, and if true, whether Luxrender 8 has addressed this problem?

    Thanks!

I’m not up on what’s official by any means, but my own testing on this yesterday would lead me to think it has not been addressed yet, as all my UV mapping went a bit out of whack once in luxrender.

Thanks for the really fast update in tutorials Johnathan! It came one day late for me, but I’m impressed again by what your doing over here.

That´s sad to hear, for I tried Blender Internal, Octane and Luxrender, and the best render output (if you disregard the seams) were produced by the latter.

It’s currently an issue, however it seems to be a regression (ie it was fixed but now broken again). Dougal is working on it so hopefully should be fixed shortly.

Just a quick update, the UV seam issue has been resolved and is in the repository.

I can’t get it to work… Once I got it working, but now its just not doing it. I have placed the script in the addon folder, it appears in the preferences, I check it, but that as far as I get. I can’t change the render engine from Blender to LuxRender. I have tried 0.8.0 RC2 and it doesn’t let me enable it in the preferences. So I tried RC1, and it lets me enable it… but that’s it… Im a Snow Leopard user on a MacBook… help would be great!

    Hi,

Thanks for helping with awareness by publishing this video – however I would like to add a HUGE caveat that the Material Load/Save and LRMDB integration features are not completely finished yet!

I know for a fact that there are still a few issues with these features, and that I may still need to make compatibility-breaking or otherwise fundamental changes to the material file formats in order to fully support complete recall of all settings.

In future, it might be better if you make tutorials and documentation only for versions of the code/plugins which are official releases, so that we can provide at least some confidence that the code will continue to operate as described in your videos.

By grabbing and documenting the code from our hg/bitbucket repos, you may well be asking for trouble by showing users how to use features that are either not complete, are still in heavy development, subject to massive changes and/or otherwise just simply broken.

Don’t get me wrong though, I really appreciate the time you have taken to show the world about our software – I just wanted to point out to anyone who may try to use this code that the final stable versions may work or look different.

    Cheers,
    Doug.

I can’t seem to get LR into user preferences. I even downloaded the startup .blend file which is supposed to have LR addon listed, also 2.57 does not have an addon file, if it does I can’t find it. My 2.56 has addon files, plugin ect. this is very strange. Any one knows how I can install Lux Render on 2.7 let me know. Thank You

I gave up on trying to install Lurender manually. Even with very close attention to the tutorials on this site (multiple attempts) it simply would not show up in User Preferences/Addons.

Now I just download builds from Graphicall that already have Lurender incoroporated in the build. It works as advertised then.

Now if I could just get the Hybrid CPU/GPU rendering to work…
