In this tutorial, I show you how to further use the “Curvacious Gallore” add-on to create a Helix shape, which we modify to be easily tileable for both the “wire” and “barb”, then use multiple Array modifiers to tile it vertically and horizontally (I also explain what a “start cap” and “end cap” is on the Array settings), Then we create a fencepost, also using the Array modifer. Finally, we add some “sag” to the fence using a Lattice.

Hey, cool. I think these are pretty useful.

By the way, Jonathan, I would much appreciate a tutorial on how to model the rest of the body bmesh. Having trouble connecting the face to the shoulder.

accurate for the basics but misses the real world product by a bit
1 360 degree twst per linear foot
    1 barb per twist
quad barbs are illegal in most states
locator nubs on a T-POST are on the front or flat side of the post
the tie wire was almost dead on
posts are 10 feet apart and require wood posts in ground at minimum of equaled height as top of fence 1 wood per 3 metal 1 wood 3 metal repeat
i have reffeence images if needed by anyone
i own and live on a working cattle/beef ranch and have over 300 miles of wire fences

overall i learned more than i knew in the 2.5+ series but since 2.49.2 is my favorite its all experimenting

also where do i get curves galore plug in

      @ ridgerunner:
To enable curves galore go to User Preferences (ctrl+alt+U) and under Add-Ons select Add Curve category on the left, then in the list tick ‘Add Curve: Curvaceous Galore!’ Of course that’s 2.5 only.
If you want to have it on permanently, you should save your defaults (after enabling your plugin) with Ctrl+U.

Is is just me or has Blender Cookie been a little “defencive” lately? Sorry . . . couldn’t resist. Yet another nice tutorial. I’m diggin’ this curvaceous thingy. Lots of potential uses.

Whoops! This certainly wasn’t the intent, we love all kinds of feedback. My best guess is I was a little short on sleep and didn’t realize I sounded defensive… :)

And yeah, the curvaceous script is awesome! I had actually forgotten about it until David pointed it out. It has so many potential uses!

I dont think he meant you Jonathan. I think it was a pun towards the defensive barrier tutorials (the fences). Get some sleep :p

    Best tutorial web sight ever.
    1 question.
I’ve made a object and want to add my uv-map to it so i can render it with Luxrender. witch should be easy. I have a material and its set to matte, and i have a texture the uv is there i can see it. but i can add that texture to my Diffuse color. I just don’t have the big T button next to my diffuse color. My bump map does have one. Any ideas on who might of stolen my button?

Don’t know what the problem was, but after reading forms for 4 hours I just deleted and un-installed blender and Luxrenderer and reinstalled it again. Seamed to of fixed the problem. I will probable die and never know why I couldn’t apply my texture to my material and who stole my button -,-

I think that theres somthing wrong with the curvatures galore script because i cant add more than one at a time, it won’t let me change it from profile to helix 3d or change the settings

You know you’ve been on the Cookie too much when you’re talking to your friends about how you never see Dsvid Ward these days. Good to see you’re back bra.

I absolutely love your tutorials. You go over every aspect of what you do and correct your mistakes for us.

I have three requests and questions.

    1. In future tutorials, can you enable a way to show us what keyboard shortcuts you are using? For example, while editing a curve, you used “s” and “alt-s”. I understand the difference, but it would be visually educational if we could see which one you use.

    2. In to the chain link fence tutorial, you used the post as your start cap, while in this one you used your hooks. In the chain link, there was a lot of tweaking needed to get the cap right, and in my own trial, I noticed that edit mode makes the startcap disappear, causing the editor to line it up blind. Is there a way to work this without trial and error?

    3. I attempted to apply a rusty texture to my fence but it simply looked bad. What would you do to make it look more realistic. I find my textures look either tiled, computer generated or overall poorly made.

I love your work, and am applying it to my own style. Your input would be greatly valued.

Hey! I did most of the fence right after the tutorial came out but never got around to finishing until now, oddly enough. Just wondering how to make fence segments (barb wire that is) connect once I use the lattice modifier. I noticed the same problem in the final render in the video, and it seemed you didn’t notice it. I just thought that for an “up close” render similar to yours it would be good to figure that out. Thanks

Do you have the Curves Galore add-on enabled?
