In this free texture download we are including 10 Ivy.tgas rendered at 2048×2048 / 32bit for commercial or personal use.
These are great for overlaying other textures, sides of buildings, or using as alpha cards for an in-game environment.
Adding some Ivy to a render (Not the poison stuff) can really make it pop, and or add that extra 10% of detail to bring your render to more of a final state. After playing with of these plugins (free for both), it is just darn fun. I found myself turning off leaves to generate a noisy grunge map, or adding various geo shapes to watch this procedurally grow live in my viewport. Very neat stuff.
These renders were generated using the http://www.guruware.at/ plugin by Maui Sun. This particular plugin is a 3D Studio Max plugin, but was based on and inspired by the stand alone IVY application http://graphics.uni-konstanz.de/~luft/ivy_generator/ developed by Thomas Luft. Which the Blender in side of us can appreciate.
Below are the links to the 2 Free IVY generators.

Hope you enjoy and have some fun. If you do something interested with these generators, or the cards post it below in the comments.

did you guys make these?
Yes they were made with the plugins above. The http://graphics.uni-konstanz.de/~luft/ivy_generator/ is the one to grab to use for Blender. It is a stand-alone application.
Nice thank you!
did you guys make these?
Wow! Thanks for posting these links; they’ll be a real help in future projects
Okay; I tried generating Ivy on Suzanne, and it was working well until I opened the newly exported object file into blender. It only imported the ivy, not Suzanne, and the ivy has no materials (well, it has 3 materials and a texture, but none of them do anything). There’s nothing about it in the readme text file; do you have any idea what I’m doing wrong?
Hey Ben, this may be a shot in the dark, but saw this on the FAQ “The exported files are empty. What can I do?
Please press “birth” before exporting.” If the pivot points are kept the same from your export suzanne and when you import the ivy object it should pop right into place. If the materials are there and not doing anything, that almost sounds like the path needs to be updated on the material to point to the location of the textures from the install dir? Or copy those into your project structure.. Hope that helps in some way.
Thanks! Actually, the problem wasn’t the birth; I just had to finish setting up the materials. I felt pretty stupid after posting this, because I scrolled down on the generator page and found a tutorial on the bottom. I downloaded it, followed it, and it worked. Sorry about that
just a tip for those who are using linux….If Ivygenerator in the Bin files doesn’t run, maybe it means that you have to install the package “libqt4-opengl”
Both are awesome tools. I had use the guruware 3ds max plugin in past to make a bougainvillea ivy like plant here are some (low resolution
) renders http://tinyurl.com/34r9aac
Here’s something I made with it

Wes, i will be really great to see a tutorial with IVY here on Blender cookie with blender 2.5
i just realised there’s already one on their website.
Wes,thanks for the tip anyways
What do i have so set in Blender to make the dark areas transparent?
Sorry i should type a little bit slowlier
what i mean is what i have to do to set the dark areas to transparent.
I just wrote a tutorial on this, if anyone’s interested, as some of the settings weren’t the same in 2.5 as they were in 2.49: http://ssimpossible.blogspot.com/2010/12/how-to-use-ivy-generator-with-blender.html
So when I download the file for windows 32 bit all I receive is a .rar file. And when I go to open it, all it does is try to bring up blender but then it crashes and has to close. I don’t get a .zip file or anything like that…can anyone help me?
Okay so when I download the ivy generator, all I receive is a .rar file, no .zip file or anything to install anything with. When I try to open the .rar file, it tries to bring up blender but then crashes. What’s going on? (I downloaded it for windows by the way)
dowload link is dead
where is the link to download?
