What seems to be the problem Boris? You can also add objects by going to the Add menu at the top of the viewport.

In your views as you manipulate the light source, what did you set up to have a line that goes from the light to the cube? (For example, at time marker 4:00).

Hi, I tried to do an animation where the object is stationary, but the camera moved. When I tried to render it, it went very very slow and then blender crashed. Any tricks? or is this just a limitation of the computer I am working from?

Hi, I’m really enjoying these tutorials (7th one in an hour :P ). I wanted to know if you could help me with building a rocket and animating its lift off. I;m watching these videos with this goal in mind. So if you could direct me to a link or such that would help me, I would greatly appreciate it.

i am supposed to program some double pendulum in matlab and create a .dat file then draw the pendulum in blender. link the two so that the data on the .dat file that matlab creates can be used to animate the blender file. i really am not sure how to even start on the drawing. how to put in the joints. worse off to tell the blender file that this part of the drawing should move according to these results. and my project is due next week. i’m lost. but you have a great program here. powerful and simple.
ohh the double pendulum i am supposed to draw is the one on the movie IRON MAN 2 at around 1:13:30m into the movie or on youtube… Swinging Sticks Iron Man 2

any help is much much much appreciated

I can move the lamp. However, when I view my object through the camera perspective the shading never changes. What am I doing wrong?

Hi! Newbie here… I have imported a vector drawing (logo) which was done in Illustrator and saved as an svg file. I can’t figure out how to extrude the logo to make it 3D and not flat.

    Any help is appreciated!
Thanks in advance, and thanks for the wonderful application.

You should be able extrude it by going to the Curve properties and adjusting the “Extrude” or “Depth” setting.

I’ve just discovered Blender and I’m enthralled thanks largely to your terrific introduction tutorials. My eleven year old son and I are learning together which began from his algebra study. Blender not only ties in with that study but it opens a new way of thinking. Thankyou for taking the time out to help others Johnathan – More power to you

having trouble with getting materials and textures using new 2.5 manual but you are updating those pages now. It says something is wrong in that area and to wait for your update. I have a texture stuck on my 1st blender try and I have deleted the one that was issued with the 2.506 download. This is more fun than shooting fis in a barrel.

I’m using the 2.60 release now, and just found these intro tutorials. They were extremely helpful! Thanks! One question. The render shortcut seems to be different in this version. Both F11 and F12 render the scene, so what’s the difference between these two renders; why two buttons?

F11 does not render. It is simply used to show the image you have already rendered. (So if you use F11, you will never see any changes, because it does not actually render your scene)

Just wanted to say thanks. I found this program the other night and the interface, while very well designed, isn’t..natural for someone to just pick up if they haven’t used other modeling programs. (Last one I used was Key3D when I was a kid, lol.) Your tutorials have just been flat out amazing. At first I needed to watch every click you made, but by the fourth video I was just listening to what you said as I clicked around the program.

    Thank you!

I’m very excited to get started in this program and use it to create convincing scenes for some of the stuff I’ve made in photoshop
