In this multi-part series, I’ll be covering how to box-model a stylized dragon, making heavy use of the various sculpt tools. The texturing will cover creating tangent normal maps and using the “toon shader” to get a nice cel-shaded look. I’ll also go into some intermediate rigging with some nice animations; from walking to pouncing to flying. and finally we’ll look into setting up a good composition with props and lighting.
In this eighth part, we go ahead and apply the rig to the model, and clean up some of the auto-weight painting on the head. I show you a few tips on the cloth sim, but ultimately, we stick with the original weight painting. I play with a couple of different poses, then I append the tower and perch ol’ Quaid on the top in a nice ferocious roaring pose.

You have made my day.
You have made my day.
If u put to the background some good picture, it can be really good picture for blender.org archive
And thanks for your series! I will renew subscription soon.
this series is truly amazing u have been one of the best teachers
Nice series Dave i really like it
.
Just a thought about the wings webbing issue, i once saw in a video that you could make shapekeys work by using the bone as a driver. sorry i dont know how to express that correctly but what you could do is make a shape key that makes the wings webbings rise and then be driven by the wing bones, so that when you close the wing the webbings rise automatically. Sorry i just cant explain it properly but im sure it can be done
Anyways thanks for the tut.
Cool tutorial – thanks!
A quick tip on the Track-To Camera rotation roblem: If you enable ‘Target Z’ in the Track-To Constraint you can control the Camera’s rotation by rotating the Empty along it’s Local X and Y axes. =)
Also, maybe it would be fun to use some Instances Particles to create some debris falling off the tower from where he’s holding it.
Lastly, I agree with Garret; watching him spew fire would be cool. I don’t think there’s a good video tutorial on how to make fire-effects with the smoke sim yet either.
Looking forward to the next part! =)
you can visit cgtuts.com there is some good tuts about fire here is the link http://cg.tutsplus.com/?s=Introduction+to+Smoke%2FFire+Simulation+in+Blender+2.5+
Now he needs fire:)

Hey thank you so much for these you guys are the best!!!
Hey Dave great stuff, as always I really enjoy and learn a lot from these tuts.
Something I’ve learned from Jonathan though : don’t use empties to target your camera, Instead just use the cursor. And change the pivot to focus on the cursor. It makes focusing a camera on still shots a hundred times easier.
Later,
Nice tut
Can’t wait for part 9.
