In this quick Blender 2.5 video tip we demonstrate how to simplify messy animation curves using one of the new Addons in Blender 2.53. This video also demoes using the Record feature in Blender to keyframe the live movement of an object.

Cool! I can totally see this being useful for animating simple things such as an object falling with some bounces, then clean up the curves and adjust. This seems like it could be faster than traditional key frame animation for some things.

Thanks Jonathan! One thing folks may want to remember is that you can do this one curve at a time, without selecting all the curves at once, since some curves will require more work than others

That’s a great tip. Many times when you key a bone by pressing r,s or g, blender places a key on all the curves. I see this as a practical way to smooth F-Curves. 2.49 had something similar with threshold levels ( Clean Curves ). But this implementation seems to work better since it is non-destructive. You can see in real time how it goes. Thanks for that tip.

Oh man, the addons! they’re become really usefull. and there’s tons of them. and I hope there getting more and more. it’s user made PY scripts right? people do scripts, send in. and it’s gettin’ distributed with blender.

    Thanx Jonathan!
Your lessons are very cool and delicious!

PS.: There is also a addon for simplifying (smoothing) bezier curves in the 3D view.

Great tut but I can´t apply “simplify curve” to a selection I made, it applies to the whole animation

Cool tip. It’s almost like a path animation without the path.

I’m doing a lot of animation lately, trying to get better. I use curves, they’re very helpful. I have a question, I have a character that after a few shots he sees a ball and picks it up to throw it. How can I attach it to his hand without keyframing the ball as his hands move around?
