In this Citizen exclusive Blender 2.5 video tutorial, we begin the process of modeling a full female head. The series will be taking an in-depth at the techniques needed to accurately model the subject, including accurate anatomy and topology.
This fourth installment continues with the main modeling process by modeling the basic form of the ear. The process focuses on clean topology while retaining anatomical forms in such as a way as to allow further detailing later.
We also have a public “Male Head Modeling Series” available for view. Just scroll down and each section is listed. Reference Images were purchased and licensed from 3D.sk. To learn more about 3D.Sk please visit them today.
Thank you for the support and more education is on the way!

- Attaching the ear

Excellent! Thank you once again. This is one of my favorite series.
I always find ears challenging so hopefully I can learn a few things here.
Keep up the awesome tuts.

Wow, it’s pretty difficult to model the ear, but you explained very well! Thanks!
Just one thing, there is no .blend in the download file….
Ooops your right on the .blend file and will dig that up and re-upload.

thanks for this
I just wanted to drop a line here to tell you how amazingly helpful this series is for me! I have been going through the Kara series, and had some trouble with the head, so I stopped and worked through these tutorials to get a better grasp of topology and form. It’s just so immensely helpful to have these videos, and there’s absolutely nothing else out there that compares to it as far as tutorials go for Blender.
One very minor thing – the volume on this movie in particular seems to be really low. It’s probably tough to fix now, but I had to crank up all the volume on my comp to hear you.
Thank you again!
corrupt zip file? i can’t seem to open it, and i’ve downloaded it multiple times
. thanks ..
on closer inspection, it looks like the download never completes. i don’t know why it keeps stopping part way.
yay, tried again and finally got it
I can not download part 4
please can you send me the link to download?
Yes I too I can’t download any video it sounds they have removed download permission
Hi there,
What kind of error are you getting?

Hey, I did the ear on another layer and as such I cannot connect it to the other mesh. Is their a way in blender to copy the object from one layer to another. Shift D works on the same layer. Let me know
Hi Shilpa,
You can move an object from one layer to another by selecting it in Object Mode and pressing M > Choose Layer of choice.
I hope that helps!

Hi,
I tried modeling the ear (I tried to stick mostly to your tutorial, however I used a different reference with different ears, and I made a few deviations from your tutorial). However, I have a question regarding face loops which cross each other. It seems (in blender 2.61 at least) that cutting through such loops creates triangles, while in most (all?) of these cases we could imagine it adding a vertex in the center of the crossing face. How do you deal with such situations.
Hi Nabil,
Can you post a screenshot of the mesh you’re working with? This will help me understand what exactly you’re looking to do

I actually have reported this bug on the tracker: http://projects.blender.org/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=29744&group_id=9&atid=498.
I know it’s not my female face from the tutorial (it’s just a simple testcase), but I noticed you have such loops in the ear. If it still is necessary, I can upload a screenshot of my face.
