We are excited to announce we are beginning the process of recording our training series. The pre-order cut-off deadline will be this next Friday 04/30/10 at Midnight -6GMT. If you have already pre-ordered you should have received this announcement already, but if not please let us know as we look to firm up our lists.

Wait a second; you guys were waiting for Beta 2 Doc Ready build, what gives?

Over these past months we remained steadfast to hold off on our recording until the release of Beta 2 (Document Ready Build), but admittedly we had to take a reevaluation of ourselves and adjust our release. We talked to Ton on our decision and believe this new approach will put the training into your hands sooner while not sacrificing quality or time. This is why starting today we are calling our 2.5 training series; “2010 CG Cookie Blender Training”

Blender continues to change from month to month and almost week to week. This is a blessing and a curse for an open source project, and made us realize we cannot follow “standard” version training releases. An example of this as we have tagged our training 2.5 Training these past few months, but in reality 2.5 is the beta version of 2.6.

Here are a few things that made our whiteboards:

  • We have already been conducting 95% of our training on 2.5 builds for the past 3 months and enjoying it. ;)
  • The good and the bad about Blender is that it is constantly changing, evolving and there will always be a sexy new feature coming out just around the bend. Sort of like the technology train, you just have to jump on somewhere.
  • We are not sacrificing the quality of our training on the tools available.

What can you expect?

We are still holding to our recording schedule of around 2 weeks per section. We have a delivery site set up so you may login and retrieve your training 24hrs a day once the first series come online. If you have pre-ordered or purchased the series, you will receive this information via e-mail when the first section is released.

New Training page is online

In efforts to present more information about our training series, we have created a new dedicated page for this here on Blender Cookie. Visit this new page to purchase, read more information, outline, and preview the character concept.

—>>> Visit page now

The new page contains:

  • Training Outline and Series Breakdown
  • Character Concept
  • Ordering information
  • Support information
  • Downloadable Outline

We wanted to give a face to our 2010 Training Series, and were able to commission David Revoy from Durian to create her from his talent gene. This is the character you will work though our education series. You will receive the glamor rendering, along with the professional model sheets.

Gracious:

Thank you again for all of the pre-order support and continuing to visit the site on a daily basis. We wouldn’t be here without the community of Blender and enabling us to do this.

This really looks interesting, but one thing keep me from pre-ordering it immediately: as I understand it, there will be no attention to the game engine whatsoever?

You are right, there are not currently any plans to cover the game engine in this series. Although, we would love to be able to give it the attention it deserves, I simply do not have the experience with the game engine to make it worth while.

Just preordered. (The preorder includes both pack one and pack two, correct?) Glad to see this is getting released. With the end of the school year coming up I’m swamped, so this will definately make for a fun summer! The part I’m looking most forward two is actually the texturing of the character’s clothing, it’s something that has always aggrivated me!

I have another quick question. Will there be model sheets for both the character and all the accessories, or just the character as shown above?

The character above displays all of the accessories, which are all displayed on the modeling sheet.

    Hello :)
First, thank you for this very nice site. The female modeling series made me sign-up for citizen and I really don’t regret it, you definitively deserve the money for the work you put in all that.
Now, a little question: I just ordered “2010 CG Cookie Blender Training”, was redirected to paypal, got a mail from paypal telling me I sent you money but I see a page asking me to complete the second part on paypal. Do I have something to do, to actually pay ? :)
Thank you in advance for bringing me out of my confusion :)

See if the message was actually sent from Paypal. There has been some phishing around with Paypal-accounts lately.

Same message but coming from CG Cookie: ” To make sure your order is complete, please complete the pre-order payment via paypal after you submitted your form. ”
But the payment is OK on Paypal for CG Cookie. Made a verification :-)

I got the same message too. I think the first part was to enter your contact info after pressing the preorder button, and the second part was paypal(payment).

    Hey guys,

Apologize for any confusion on this. But you guys are correct. The first form is done through our form service wufoo.com which submits it over to paypal for payment for the second part.

The message is just to be sure both were done. But if you guys get anything phishy please drop us a note to support@cgcookie.zendesk.com and we will take a gander.

Thanks for the support and catch you guys soon.

Thank you Wes for the explanation. In fact, I was not worried about phishing, just tough there was another step to complete my order and wasn’t sure what is was :) Now I’m reassured.

    Hi fellows,

I’ve just placed my pre-order and am now eagerly waiting for the release of the training series! By the way, as David Revoy has participated to this project, I’m also happy to see that a ‘Frenchie froggie’ has been involved into it! ;)

You guys rock! And I guess this training series will match with most of my expectations regarding my Blender self-studies. I’ve not much time currently to log online and download video tutorials here on CG Cookie, and I think that having a whole pack of training, kinda ‘home curriculum’, should be a great help for me to study offline on my spare time. And I think lots of other people are in the same situation as mine, due to their jobs, families or so.

I don’t mind waiting, provided that quality will be there of course. Keep up the good job, and may the Force be with you! :D

Pre-ordered. A well deserved price for all the hard work.
I’m looking forward to it, especially part 2.
It’s fun to see David involved in it!

You guys are giving me what I couldn’t find for a long time: Blender tutorials that are useful, fun to follow, all in one place, and consistent.

    Keep it up

Is there a forum yet for the training series? I have questions some times and I’m sure others have the same ones, where do we post them?

eg. 1) using 2.5a2 preferences settings- I don’t see the option under preferences to use a maya style interface, is this version specific or is it someplace else?
    2) for some reason my preferences and layout colors are not there when I reopen, yet the dpi setting is saved! Any idea why? I haven’t speficied paths yet, is that why?

      Hi Lyle,

There is not yet a forum for the training series. We are very skeptical about restarting any kind of forum due to management time and spam issues. However, a forum dedicated and restricted to the training series is not such a bad idea and we will keep it in mind for sure.

      As for your questions:

      1. The Maya interaction preset is only available in the testing builds as it was added after 2.5 alpha 2. To use this feature you need to download a testing build from http://graphicall.org

      2. In order for your preferences to be restored upon reopening Blender you must press “Save as Default” or press “cntrl + U” in the viewport of Blender.

I hope that helps and thanks for the support on the site!

      Cheers,

      Jonathan
