In this multi-part Blender 2.5 video tutorial we are going to be taking a close look at how to model a Porsche 911 GT3 RS. Due to the nature of the car these tutorials encompasses a lot of techniques from both organic modeling and hard-surface modeling styles. A particular emphasis is placed on creating good topology that will enable you to easily modify the shape but also to accurately create the details.
In part 8 of this Blender 2.5 video tutorial series we are going to change things up a bit and do a time-lapsed modeling session in order to further tweak the mesh and improve some areas of the car. Keep in mind that all of the modeling during this session uses all the techniques that have been taught prior to this video.

Great. Can’t wait for the final material nad rendering setup.
With those little tweaks, it looks really nice. Thanks for this tutorial/time-lapse.
Btw, this is a good song, make me think about my old cars’ game
The time-lapse was a good idea for the tweaking stage. Just a thought: Have you considered doing a commentary instead of music? There might be some good pointers you can think of after the fact that might help. Not that I don’t like a little techno with my modeling
Also, how long was the actual session? Just curious.
Thanks again.
I am considering doing a commentary version of this video and future ones but will have to wait and see. There are a lot of other items on my to-do list
The original session was just over two hours.
I can tell that in the music it’s a technoish version of “By By Beautiful” originally made by Nightwish.
I love the looks of the car model. It now has a drool factor of about 8.5 and will be a 10 on the final video lol
I think the hoods slope is too steep. Still this is an educational ride. Wow, there is really a lot of work spend for modeling one of these.
Is this really the power of tweaking? I barely finished a Ferrari Enzo and it looks like crap and I have no sincere idea as what to do with it.
Great job with your Porche, it’s looking pretty amazing.
Most people will tell you that you should/will spend more time tweaking than you do on the initial modeling. For me, at least it is much easier to put together the structure of the model very quickly and then spend the majority of time tweaking it. I find this to be a much faster and more accurate workflow than trying to make everything perfect the first time. If you spend too much time making everything precise and perfect initially you can easily find yourself getting discouraged at the slow progress.
Wont the perspective be screwed by modelling in user orthographic ?
Hey guys, love the site!
I was just wondering when the next episode of the car series will be out. I’ve really enjoyed watching the series so far! Is that something you guys still have in the works?
Thanks,
Aaron
I cannot say when exactly it will be out but it shouldn’t be too much longer
Jonathan
How many will be in this series total?
Still waiting for part 9
It is coming very soon!
I haven’t followed this tut yet. But I can tell I would love to see more like this(Also. Some scene tutorials would be awesome!).
Keep up the great work BC/CGC!
Jonathan,
Amazing….Simply amazing. I started working with Blender about a year ago and, of course, found hard body modeling to be very difficult. I entered a monthly contest over at Super3Boy’s website and came up with this:
http://forum.nystic.com/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=12288
Mine is ‘SnackWhack’; The Autogyro near the bottom with 1 vote.
Back then, I was trying to do exactly what you are teaching in this tut, but I was trying to apply soft body techniques. Now, I’ll approach assignments like this much differently, and thank you so much.
That being said, I only do this as a hobby, and I’m classically trained as a computer programmer. I’ve been paying attention to Farsthary and his most recent advancements, and I’d like to merge his understanding of programming and mix it with your understanding of modeling.
This is cool, I always wanted to be a car designer looks like this is a good place to start.
i have watched this 200 times,
finally i am close to part 9 hheheeee
