I love these little quick tips. This one solves one of my beginner problems I was wrestling with. (I used to do this by adding 4 edge loops to every face before extruding the face)

Never thought it would be that easy.

Nice tip, thanks! Hey, I have a tutorial request – how about a good solid Blender 2.5 Alpha 0 particle hair tutorial? I’m sure you guys get that request all the time, but it would help me out a lot!

As always, much appreciated Cookie Crew!

Nice workaround but still a workaround. I hope bmesh will make a difference.

Nice tip, I usually use scale after extrude, never have used smooth tool. Thanks,

Scale is more precise, but does not allow you to create multiple insets at the same time and can also cause problems if you are not working on a perfectly flat surface.

Actually, you can select “Individual Origins” in the menu where you choose to scale from the median or 3D Cursor and it’ll scale each face individually.

What you can do is to go into face select mode, use individual centers as pivot point, extrude as you did and then scale. In that case, the faces scale and not the whole mesh.
Still not perfect for certain situations but that way you should be able to do multiple insets at a time with the added accuracy. :)

    Boss,

As long as it is a square there is no problem

In case of a rectangle, the problem would be non-uniform width of the inset. Try the same inset method for a rectangle instead of a square
