If you don’t know me, I am a motorcycle nut, and enjoy taking a ride out along some nice twisteeez, or lugging camping gear and all for a week trip out into the world. But as a CG artist I actually have never modeled a motorcycle and that bothers me. So I was prepping to model my trusty beast, when I decided why not toss it up here also for any other interested parties.

This bundle is pretty good, and covers most areas of the “exterior” of the cycle. Maybe this spring before I take it out I will grab some interior engine shots etc.

To keep this for what it is, nearly all of these reference images are in black and white. There are only a few color shots to just give you a sense on what the cycle looks like. But I didn’t want color to be a focus while you were looking at the parts of it. This bundle as 80 .jpgs at 2048×1365. If some of these are too dark, you can brighten them up slightly by adding a shadow/highlight filter to them.

So this is “her”.. nice. Jonathan rocked at modeling the Porsche but I guess dealing with this exterior would take at least ten times longer than the car, hehe. Still, an animation of this passing by at 100mph would surely look amazing. Think a motion-blurred stain on the screen could do the job? :-)

Sweet guys – yah that is my little cycle I hope on and ride off to the sunset when computers make me want to punch them with foot.

I have started to model this last night and it is quite a bit of a challenge. But will post some of my progress hopefully soon.

Cool bike. Those are a good cross between sports & touring(according to the reviews I’ve seen). I love bikes myself. Great way to travel. Can’t wait to see the completed model.

    Hi!
some years ago I build a motorcycle from paper.
I download the model from Yamaha web site:
    http://www.yamaha-motor.co.jp/global/entertainment/papercraft/
maybe it can be used for CG too…
(at least, textures will not be a problem…)

    I know. my english is…

Nice little runaround you’ve got there, Wes. I’ve got a Bandit 600 myself; no Micron can though, they’re ridiculously illegal over here and coppers just love pulling you up for them.

I’ve always thought modelling a bike would be particularly challenging. I’d better start with some of the fine beginner tutorials before I start modelling my dream machine.
