Arguably the most important aspect to any model, from a technical aspect is the structure of the wireframe. A very good way to display this in Blender is by rendering an wireframe overlay on top of your normal model. This tip shows you how to do this by using a duplicate mesh and a wire material.

There is a “Solid Wire” script that allows you to create an actual mesh wire frame. It has it’s uses but is not nearly as clean as this method.

Rather than going into edit mode and scaling the duplicated mesh, just using the ‘ZOffs’ option in the wireframe material seems to work just as well to make sure that the wireframe stays on top of the original object.

Is there a way to achieve the same effect but with the nodes? I’d like to use one object only rather then duplicate it. I’m trying in 2.5 with the nodes but it seems that the wire isn’t working when I mix it with the base shader. Same happens in 2.49.

I just got a notification in the email about this tutorial from wordpress, as if it were just recently posted. But it looks like this is back from 2009 lol. Any ideas why?
